pass on New Mexico
I'd take Colorado State.
How the Hogs looking this year? My oldest daughter will be a frosh there this fall.
We likely would have to take those two in order to land Air Force. We don’t need to go any further west than that in my opinion—especially after the way BSU acted an A$$ last time….
Expansion west doesn't make sense any longer outside of BYU.
This sot of: Taking on BYU FB only would be like playing a western P5 team. However for balance you would need at least 1 more school. Army in the east would be ideal for the conference. If Army chooses to remain independent then Air Force FB only would work. You only get Air Force with BYU and /or one of the range schools -Colorado ST or Wyoming - preferably Colorado ST. No one seems to like New Mexico as an expansion candidate but they would work great geographically with the Colorado schools.
The AAC is already too spread out so the western wing should be condensed with Air Force and Colorado St for all sports. BYU like Army isn't coming but scheduling arrangements with those schools plus inclusion in bowl packages would work best for them. ESPN would love the BYU tie in because they would cover all the BYU games whether they were played at BYU or at an AAC school. This would force the MWC to take a step backwards and force them to pick up schools like Idaho and New Mexico ST to get back to 12 schools.
AAC West:
1. Navy / Wichita St
2. Air Force - all sports - makes the Navy game a conference game for both freeing up an OOC game for both schools. Cuts travel to the west coast and Hawaii. Any west coast travel they would desire could be scheduled OOC and Wyoming could stay on all their sports schedules as an OOC opponent.
3. Colorado ST - all sports.
4. Tulsa
5. Houston
6. SMU
7. Tulane
AAC East:
1.UCONN
2.Temple
3. ECU
4. CINN
5. Memphis
6. UCF
7. USF
The football season for conference games would be 6 and 2 instead of the current 5 and 3 divisional play with the Championship game at the end of the season.
The BB and Olympic sports would play H & H games divisionally and at least 2 to 4 rotating cross division games a year with a play off system for the Conference Championship depending on which sports are involved.
The AAC should have at least a 4 game scheduling agreement with each of BYU and Army (2 built in with Navy and Air Force) and work together for on bowl arrangements either playing those schools in a bowl or adding bowls to cover off on any bowls they make be in.
