It sounds like cultural appropriation.

...maybe a DeSoto discovery? Not that it wasn't already there and known by others... Ok...Wiki doesn't say much about it, but somewhere else noted that it's called that because "The plant reminded the French settlers of the beards of the Spanish conquistadors"...so close enough, I reckon...

It also stated in Wiki that Spanish Moss can exist up into Virginia, so be on the lookout for it in NC, clt!

clt is preparing now

...not sure if Spanish Moss is that big of an issue overall...

...now, kudzu? If you see any of THAT, kill it. burn it. stomp on it. then burn it some more...

The lowly Sunbelt has no "Leaves Thread". It must not be in the by-laws...

The trees are starting to turn here in West Michigan. Lots of Maples and Oak trees. I am still hoping for a couple of more boating weekends.

SMU will have at least 1 season to play with the CUSA-6. I think the AAC made a great move getting 6 schools to take reduced shares to join the conference. The payback will be there in the long run for the CUSA-6.
