This is from a former player I work with, but he was surprised at how late they were leaving. Not sure if it was due to the weather or what.

If I was going to SHSU, I'd want to spend as little time as possible there, too.

One forecast predicting 25-35" of rain to fall between Corpus Christi and San Antonio during the 24 hour period just before and after landfall. Less impact from the hurricane moving East towards Houston, but flooding could cancel the game.

Yep. This could be catastrophic. Was watching NBC evening news and they talked about one of the worst scenarios of any tropical system playing out and that is once it makes landfall it may stall and meander slowly while dropping monumental rainfalls (as you pointed out). Scary stuff. They probably should cancel the game as emergency personnel could be used elsewhere in addition to the safety of the fans/teams/etc.

Postpone, maybe. But no reason to outright cancel. This was a Week 1 game that they moved to Week 0 for ESPNU. They could move it back to its originally scheduled time next Thur, or to next Sat.

Agreed. Good points.

This is what they should do, but folks on AGS seem to think it will be canceled. Its a darn shame. Maybe we should invite Sammy to BFS on Sunday for a nice little scrimmage level game before ECU. We could play our backups and pound these guys.

Wouldn't be so bad if the game is canceled. Soft Houston could then only get to 9 D1 wins, with at most one being against another playoff team. I doubt they would do better than the #5 seed like they got last year, unless there happens to be quite a few upsets and a number of teams near the top end up with a couple losses.

The equipment truck headed down there last night though. They may have to donate their red sweater vests for players to wear at our game, LOL

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – With the impending inclement weather due to Hurricane Harvey headed for the Texas Gulf Coast, officials from both Sam Houston State and Richmond have decided to postpone and reschedule Sunday's season-opening football game.

A date and time will be announced later as both sides continue to monitor the situation and determine the best course of action moving forward.

"First of all our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by this storm," Interim Athletic Director David Walsh said. "Given the circumstances we feel this is the best, safest decision we can make in an effort to protect the well-being of the student-athletes and staff on both sides."

While I was looking forward to this game, this was a good call to keep everyone safe. Texans have a long night ahead it seems.

This sounds like outright plagiarism to me.

As soon as I read that, I said to myself, "they're taking the JMU approach"

Agreed, although it's going to be more than just tonight. Sadly, this storm may actively continue to inflict serious damage for the better part of a week.

Rockport, TX (a favorite family vacation spot during my youth) may well get washed away by the time this is all done. 03-weeping
