Cincinnati Football Coaches: How They've Fared Since
I hate this lull we're in leading up to football season so I was curious how some former coaches have ended up after their time at UC. I only went as far back as Dave Currey since he was the coach when I attended UC as a freshman. Quick observations: Tim Murphy has had a heckuva career at Harvard. Rick Minter looks like he has the resume of a millennial. Stay long much? Mark Dantonio has the best overall success and stability leading a big time program. What a move for him after only going 18-17 during his time at UC.

At least its not a financial investment scheme like it was the last time he was out of football for a year.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but Brian Kelly is not far off Dantonio in terms of post UC success. I know this board is pretty anti Notre Dame, and many don't harbor many good feelings towards BK, but he has done a good job at Note Dame. It is likely that he will get fired soon because Notre Dame has unattainable expectations, but he took over a bad Weiss team and turned them into a winner.

Notre Dame has not truly been a national power since around 1993, and they do play a very difficult schedule. Kelly likely has Notre Dame at their ceiling without being in an actual conference, and I don't think there are many coaches outside of Urban Meyer, Saban, or Sweeney that would have Notre Dame playing at a higher level.

Minter has been bouncing around quite a bit. Clearly the man isn't all that talented. He's plugging right along. Even if it means bouncing along the bottom. Can't knock the hustle tho.

We certainly would have had a better shot at the ACC or Big 12 if the program had stayed on that trajectory. No guarantees that it would have though.

Minter has had some bad luck, IMO. He was the DC at Marshall when the previous coach...and staff...were all dismissed.

Clearly Minter is not a capable HC, but he is a solid DC. When Mark Snyder was canned at Marshall, Minter's D was the only redeeming grace of that tenure and he (Minter) was retained to coach the Bowl game (in Detroit).

I will always be respectful of the job Minter did here at UC. It was fairly solid, if uninspiring. He clearly was unable to take the "next step," but he did alright by us.

Agree, 100%. Minter brought stability after a very rocky period in the football program's history, recruited and developed some talent and delivered some very impressive victories (Wisconsin, Kentucky, Boston College, Virginia Tech as I recall) and the first bowl game (and win) in what, fifty years?

I think he took the program as far as he could as head coach--which wasn't quite far enough. But he left the program in better shape than he found it and set the stage for the best decade in program history.
