Tech vs Vols
Tennessee hasn’t sold out its 25,000 ticket allotment for its season-opening game against Georgia Tech, but only single seats remain, according to the school’s website.
Meanwhile, Georgia Tech sold its 30,000-ticket allotment to the game at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium as part of its season ticket package and has since came back and gotten another 3,500 tickets.

Tech will be well-represented in stands for Chick-fil-A Kickoff game
Georgia Tech will have a strong presence at the Chick-fil-A Kickoff game against Tennessee. The school has sold 35,000 tickets, Peach Bowl president Gary Stokan said, significantly more than Tennessee. Tech’s original contract allotment was 30,000 tickets.

Georgia Tech on pace to out-draw Tennessee in opener, prove wrong Vols’ AD
Tennessee’s athletic director might have jumped the gun when he said he’d bet orange will be the predominant color in the Vols’ opening game against Georgia Tech in Atlanta.

StubHub has upper deck tickets for $90. It would take a lot of Chick-fil-a sandwiches to make up that difference.
Good showing by GT though.

It would be good for GT in particular and the ACC in general if there are more Jackets than Vols in the stands. That's what it takes to upgrade bowl tie-ins on the next contract.
It would also be good if GT wins, as that sets up Tennessee as an SEC spoiler.

RE: Tech vs Vols
Should it really be that surprising if Georgia Tech were to outdraw UT for what is essentially a home game?

While it's undoubtedly closer for GT, keep in mind that (a) Atlanta isn't all that far for Tennessee fans to drive, and (b) the Volunteers average TWICE as many fans as the Yellow Jackets. So yeah, it would be kind of a big deal (IMO).

I don't think it would be a big deal. If it were 70-30 GT then yes but 60-40 or 55-45 in your home town? No. It's a feel good story. I think it will be pretty even. Many fans, myself included, buy on the secondary market because it tends to be cheaper than through the school.

The proof is on game day... we'll see. Fans are getting wise to these school sponsored tix packages.

You would think the schools would have the best deals.

I thought they were like bowl games? Schools are given an allotment of tickets as part of their payment for appearing in the game. Technically they didn't pay anything for the tickets so what ever they get is pure profit. If GT sold 30k tickets at $100 each, that's $3 million.
I don't know if kickoff games revenue is shared with the conference like bowls. In any case, the tickets don't go through the conference so that is all GT money.
