Well there you go - not every school has an on campus rink, and it would certainly be expensive to build one.

So while yes, the scholarship costs are the same regardless, some sports are not as facility and equipment cost intensive as others, so you try to economize where you can.

Getting back to the topic -- I just don't see anything wrong with club teams. The club can even be called the "University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks women's hockey club team".

This country's tradition and obsession with school teams, as opposed to club teams, is not necessarily a good thing.

There's nothing wrong with club teams, you just have to make sure that the scholarships are gender-balanced in accordance with the law. If you are in gender compliance and then turn a 10-scholarship women's team into a club team, eliminating those scholarships, you are going to have legal problems real quick.

That didn't happen, though -- there were no legal problems, even though that's exactly what they did. Check out post #77
