Why would Frazier support a subdivision, oh yeah because ESPN expressed interest in televising it. ESPN also televises lacrosse and poker, that doesn't mean its a good idea! ESPN has absolutely gutted , and I mean gutted the MAC. You get some greedy self-minded ADs who just see an instant paycheck and do not realize how bad the conference is being destroyed. Its sad, very very sad. If the MAC is going to survive, you need ADs and front office leadership that have an interest in the health of the conference. I don't see that day coming any time soon
A G5 playoff is not FCS. Hes realistic that a G5 will never be national champ. If you think so, I will propose this...give me $1,000 dollars tomorrow. I will give you $50,000 when a G5 wins the national championship. I'm 100% certain you'd never do it. And you call this "competing" with the P5. What person thinks we are on the same level as Alabama and Ohio state just because we have a title of FBS? It's like you gain some false sense of self worth just because you get the letters FBS in front of your athletic department. Grow up man. You're playing for table scraps like a beggar every season.
Its all about perception. You are probably right that a G5 never plays for the national championship, but creating another league just puts the stamp of FCS on it. I for one would never renew season tickets if this happens.

It's not another league. No where in his idea does he say that the G5 teams will stop playing the P5 all together. And if you actually listen to his interviews his idea is about financial stability and a chance at the CFP. Clearly you are only hearing what you want to hear and are hell bent on tearing down STF, NIU Athletics, and the University as a whole.

While I don't always agree with MD, he has a point. Unfortunately his point has already happened. First BCS leagues vs non-BCS leagues. Then P5 vs G5 (BCS and P5 are essentially the same thing). It has been divided already and G5 are not looked favorably by media, P5 etc. And new rules, etc. will probably further separate.

What's going to be real interesting to watch, much like STF and the AD from Boise said, is what will happen when cord cutting becomes the norm and cable contracts become useless? This major separation of the P5 and G5 has occurred because the bigger conferences took advantage of TV media and made outrageous deals to turn CFB into an even more lucrative business. This major perception of the haves and the have not's didn't really come into play like it does today until TV deals started being signed. Once these deals run out, or like we've seen already, people start going away from Cable, the companies paying these conferences won't have the money to do so. If you can be smart and position yourself correctly, you can get ahead of the trend and come out with a more lucrative deal than you would have otherwise. The next 5-8 years are going to be fascinating to watch, and don't be surprised if the "P5" tries to go clear of the NCAA because they see the writing on the wall. In the meantime, you can't sit still...schools like NIU (not including Boise, Houston, SMU, UCONN, etc, you know schools that have loads of money and great facilities) need to do their best to stay competitive facility and recruiting wise to ride this out and see how media changes in the near future. Because it's going to be drastic and you need to make sure you are in the best position to transition with the big boys.
