RE: MAC Media Special Guest
This is hard to believe. After the Big 10 Media Day, the Sun-Times had articles on the U of I, Northwestern, and even PJ. After the MAC Media Day, there was no article on NIU or even Toledo (the nation's no. 1 team). Maybe they're saving the MAC coverage for the weekend when they'll have a two-part in-depth analysis of the conference. Or, maybe the media is ignoring the MAC for letting PJ get away. Yeah, that's gotta be it.

Maybe we can hire Sean Spicer as MAC press secretary. He has high ratings with the national press and is looking for a job.

On a more serious note, what happened to HuskieWire?
What about the no-coverage Northern Star?

RE: MAC Media Special Guest
Sadly, HuskieWire is dead. The Daily Chronicle currently does not have an NIU beat writer and reports are they will not fill the position in 2017. This is a sad development for NIU and for fans who follow the Huskies. Feel free to let the sports editor, and more importantly, the paper's editor, know. Huskie coverage from the hometown paper will take a serious hit this year.
The Northern Star does not go to full operation until students return.
The Tribune and Sun-Times, which used to pick up some of its NIU stories from Shaw Media (the Daily Chronicle), have made significant cuts to college sports coverage across the board. I believe there are only 2-3 writers covering college sports now and many of them (Greenstein) also are assigned to other areas like golf, Bulls, Cubs, etc. when needed. They even eliminated one of the stringers (non staff writers, hired per article) who they used to assign regularly to NIU.
Sadly, these papers are today making decisions based on how many "clicks" their stories get. More clicks, more coverage. Less clicks, eliminate coverage.

Thanks for the response Huskie Info.
Any chance that you can comment on the very first post in this thread? Specifically, what can NIU do in future years if anything to make the schedule more fan friendly? I realize that weekday games are here to stay, but 6 pm weekday start times are not fan friendly and do not support the NIU and DeKalb communities in any way.
And let's not forget about 5 pm start times for away games. No one will be able to watch the MAC live anymore.

Sounds like a good job for Mike Korcek.

I guess it ain't like it used to be, that's for sure. I remember when newspapers were king and Chicago had 4 major papers: Tribune, Sun-Times, Daily News, and American.

Sun Times was useless for NIU news anyway. Tribune covered NIU when they felt like it. DeKalb Chronicle/Huskiewire is more of a loss.
