Then on fourth down, he threw the ball out of the corner of the end zone on the last play of the game. My point being that just because they have a QB returning, that does not necessarily mean that they will be better off at the position than we will with a new QB.
You are correct. But, if you look at the two teams and are trying to make predictions, no one in their right might would predict we would have a better QB in 2017.

Yeah, I probably did not word that very well. The point I was trying to make is that whatever the differential is in QB, in my opinion it is not sufficiently in UTSA's favor to be the difference maker and sway selecting UTSA ahead of the Monarchs in preseason C-USA polling. It all goes back to Old Dominion's question. "Someone help me out here. We beat (barely) UTSA at their place and beat them fairly convincingly at home last year. Why are they so highly regarded this year?"

Totally agree, The QB position may be their "Achilles' heel" - Sturm has been very inconsistent. They will be a better team this year IMO because....
#1). Their Coach seems to be on the right track to create a better offensive team. #2). They have been recruiting and looking to improve their OL, where they have been very weak.
RE: CUSA Media Days (Wed July 19- Thur July 20, 2017) in Dallas
Sturm looked bad against us because we contained him in the pocket and our DL wrecked shop on their OL. But, he played pretty well overall last year. Nothing great, but enough to reasonable assume he will be one of the better QBs in the conference.
Not that I'm complaining but the coverage with Miller is very "Vanilla". I feel like I'm living a 1960's TV show "Dragnet " he gives ...Just the facts and very little insight into who, what, when and defiantly not WHY? Would love to see Ed Miller's coverage with more "meat and potatoes" and expose a little of himself as he reports on ODU Football and Basketball. The fan base loved Harry because his column almost always had depth with interviews and part of Harry in everything he would write..... Ed gives us just the FACTS.

Sounds to me like you're complaining. Ed isn't in Dallas and likely is writing off either AP or whatever the conference sends out. Traveling to Dallas for this is apparently a luxury the Pilot no longer feels it can afford -- but they did send Harry to the ACC. Priorities.

Ok, I certainly get the fact we don't have a QB who has proven anything to anyone. That's a pretty solid reason for ranking UTSA ahead of us, but I really think our QB situation is going to turn out more than all right. Other tan QB, I think based on what I saw last year, we are more talented then them position for position. I can optimistically see us coming in 2nd in the east. and 3rd overall.
My biggest worry for this year is to not get beaten like a drum by UNC and VT., If we at least look competitive I'll be happy.

Unfortunately the gap between Power Conference and G5 Conference will just grow over the next few years. UNC and VA Tech have Millions and Millions more in income to build and create advantages that we can only hope for. The TV Money and exposure is the downfall for all G5 programs.
If ODU is lucky and we get an invite to move to the AAC in the future, well that would be one of the best scenarios for ODU especially for Football and Basketball. The new stadium will make us more attractive to recruits, but the deck is stacked against us at this time.

Here is my long range, optimistic prediction. Football attendance, both live and tv, is falling and will continue to fall. TV revenue is the biggest single thing that seperates G5 from P5. If TV revenue starts to fall for the P5, it will hurt them more than us, since we already don't get any revenue to speak of. Long term declining TV revenue may stop them from continuing to race ahead of us.

Not sure how TV revenue for the Power 5 would fall if the Big 10 Network, SEC Network, and (coming in 2019) the ACC Network are successful. I don't see any demand for a "C-USA" or even an "AAC" Network anytime soon!
