This year the university should see growth in enrollment, with the out of state waiver. USM is now 25% less expensive than most Louisiana universities. Three years ago USM was equal to or more expensive than them. Growing enrollment out of state has a number of positives for athletics:

1. Slightly more fee money
2. Potentially grows the long term regional tv market, for what this is worth
3. Reverses a negative trajectory

And the Rhino Liner Endowment for the Dooped will help too.

I haven't looked at LA numbers, but my guess is they increased their price point like most schools whilst ignoring the law of diminishing....

addendum: brick and mortar are also bowing to tech pressuring....that will only apply more as time moves forward

Tuition for most students in the Louisiana system is relatively unimportant because of the state scholarship program. Most pay only for fees and books. Wouldnt it be nice for one to live in Hatiesburg with a relative, etc, enroll at USM and having to pay for just books and fees? That is how it is with the Louisiana schools, most students are commuters so they can get through the education phase of their lives without graduating with a huge student loan debt. USM enrollment would surge to at least 35-40,000 under those conditions.

there is no question the playing field isn't equal.....vis-à-vis, p5/g5 dollars.....

hence, my point....we have no choice unless legislative changes are made.....at least this is a start in salvaging....

the chance of that happening is currently nil.....

look at the midwest's numbers.....they're getting hammered by exceeding the ROI.....

TOPS doesn't cover housing or fees. The program is unsustainable like any free lunch.

Yes, definitely contributed to tuition hikes because the schools just raised tuition and then the tops (state program) paid the bill. I understand the tops tuition amount has been capped thus if they raise tuition now it will come out of the students pockets. I didnt mention housing because most students in these Louisiana schools are commuters, part time, or internet learners.
