UCONN Football Recruiting
Serious question for rational posters, what's up with UCONN's football recruiting ranked at 120 and falling? I know the early signing period is not until Dec. 20, but dang. Is there some part of the big picture I'm not seeing? It seems like with their massive budget they would have some advantages. This is not a troll question.

RE: UCONN Football Recruiting
Apparently HuskyU doesn't think this is a serious question. Football drives the bus for P5s, and it would be awful to see UConn left behind in another round of realignment for not taking a serious approach. I'm rooting hard for UConn.
Maybe someone with actual knowledge of UConn recruiting could comment.

No...It's just an obvious troll thread. You respond to my post in the other thread about ECU's piss poor efforts in the conference ( http://csnbbs.com/thread-821279-page-5.html) then start this thread literally 8 minutes later.
I'm sure you are really concerned about UCONN being left out in the next round of realignment. Perhaps we never get the golden ticket, but at least UCONN will ALWAYS be ahead of ECU when it comes to a P5 invite.

Even if that is true, no school will ever get a P5 invite without dedication to football. HuskyU's vitriolic comments aside, what really is going on? I would like to see UConn be successful in spite of his rants. How much nicer could I possibly be?

RE: UCONN Football Recruiting
In fairness to UConn, they have never had a high recruiting ranking in football-- even in the Big East when they could see being in an AQ Conference. OTOH, they have placed a lot of guys into the NFL.
A big issue is simply location. They are not in a recruiting hotbed, and they have to compete with Penn State, Notre Dame, Rutgers, Syracuse, Maryland and BC for the few highly ranked guys in their footprint.
The true measure of "what's going on with UConn" won't be known for a couple of years. Edsall is going to have to recruit the right kind of guys to fit his system. He was able to do this during his first run in Storrs, we are just going to have to see it play out to see if history repeats itself.

I have it on good authority that our basketball team consists mostly of old cardboard display cutouts of Dennis Rodman from the mid-90's, and we beat your team last year.
Our football team went 3-9 on the season, and we still embarrassed you. Put together a winning season in this decade and then unload some poo if you're still an FBS program.

Pretty much this. We've always relied on under the radar and diamond in the rough types of guys who were under-recruited, even when we were having moderate success. That is not going to change now coming off of 6 losing seasons. With improvement on the field, I think we'll see improvement in our recruiting but it's going to take time and I don't expect us to ever be consistently near the top of the league.

ECU has often had to rely on "diamond in the rough" type players, being in a state with 4 ACC schools. Justin Hardy was a walk-on and Shane Carden had no FBS offers for example. I like what Coach Mo is doing here for recruiting.
If Edsall is on top of things, I wouldn't be surprised to see some top recruits committing closer to Dec. 20. A lot of recruits will commit after the early signing period if they don't get a P5 offer.
Here's wishing the best to UConn and all our conference mates. What's good for one school is good for all.

Temple's recent rise has definitely been a factor for UConn.

HuskyU's panties are in a wad because I trolled him so bad in another thread he's created a few anti-ECU threads. It's like I took away his JalapeƱo Mac n' Cheese or something.

Yet you went as far away as ND but skipped over former NC Pitt (something not all the programs you listed can claim). Not sure why.

Uconn should focus 99% on basketball. Football in Connecticut is a tough sell.
