Exclamation 62 Days to Kickoff... #62 Fr. OL Cam Kilgour
[Image: kilgour_cam_17.jpg?width=300]

I believe Cam is a preferred walk-on to the program out of Purcellville via Woodgrove HS. He has good size as an incoming true freshman. Get in that weight room, get bigger and stronger, and make your way on the scout team. His Woodgrove teammate, WR Mason Gryniuk, also has joined the program via walk-on.

Good luck to Cam. Just remember 4 years ago a young OL named Aaron Stinnie was a walk-on for the Good Guys as well. 4 years later, he enters his final season with NFL scouts closely watching him. It can and does happen.

Yes. And, here's a fun article about Matt and his journey (involving peanut butter with his O-Line mates) from back in January leading up to the title win in Frisco... https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/co...c92807172a

I watched Woodgrove play against John Champe last fall. Gryniuk is a nice looking receiver, 6'2 with nice hands. He also played DB. Cam played right tackle. John Champe had 6'1" 305 ol/dl EJ Bolden who played both ways on a hot night.

Had never even heard of those high schools- looked up and see they are in Loudon County. When I was in HS (a long time ago) I think there there were only 4 HS in Loudon County- Loudon County, Loudon Valley, Park View, and Broad Run. Might have been a 5th. Now see there are 15.04-jawdrop

I have lived in Sterling since 1984 and the growth in the county and the corresponding boom in school students has been nothing less than phenomenal. As you noted when we moved here there were 4 HS until the early 1990's then boom did things take off!!

Some good HS football programs also!!

That growth is also a little misleading when it's framed as number of schools. Many/most of the new schools in Loudoun are being built with the long-term goal of being 3A-4A sized, so not mega-schools. Every new school becomes gigantic initially though, before leveling off. I just find it interesting how LCPS intentionally builds smaller. As a teacher, I think a Loudoun gets a lot of things right & school size is one of them.

I hear you Parent. When my family moved to Spotsylvania Co in the late 70s there was 1 HS. 1980-2004 they added 4 more. Crazy growth, majority due to No VA/DC commuters. No longer have family there-still apparently 5 HS..Maybe the growth slowed a little...

It has been and is still projected to be the fastest growing county in Virginia (measured by percentage).

Which is ironic because a lot of people complain about how they get the school size issue wrong. My parents live in Ashburn. When I was a freshman at Briar Woods there were the original 3 HS's in the area (Stone Bridge, Broad Run, Briar Woods) now I go back a few weeks ago and its now 5 HS's (Rock Ridge and Riverside) along with the original 3 and they are already zoned to have another right near my parents house.

They should have built something Westfield esque on the SB or BW property to offset it but chose this route

I imagine parents don't like the uncertainty of frequent re-zoning, but as a teacher, I like the smaller-cap school concept. It helps keep a school more manageable & prevents kids from becoming one-trick ponies. At many schools now, there's pressure for kids to focus on one sport or activity exclusively all year. With schools over 2,000 kids, you have to be college scholarship material in multiple sports just to get coaches to work with you to play both. There's just so many kids that there's no reason for coaches to share. In my opinion, kids are much better off when they have realistic opportunities to participate in multiple sports & other activities without one monopolizing their life.

Don't disagree but your first sentence gets back to my issue. Just watched a neighborhood all get split up to schools because of one road. The re-zoning is the issue. I lived next to Broad Run, but was told to take a 10-15 minute drive to a new school because they rezoned everyone that year.

It's just the issue of moving people around and continued uncertainty that's become tough to watch

And yes sorry Cam. Woodgrove is a hell of a school with a coach who knows how to to win and do it well.

Its a good thing for him. Normally a thread on a true Fr walkon OL might get a couple of responses, and then gets buried. This is keeping his name at/near the top of the board for a few days/a week.

While OT on the subject of rezoning. Family and I live in Cascades in Sterling. When the daughters were in elementary school each one attended three different elementary schools from K-5 due to rezoning. Older one spent 2 years each in 3 schools and the younger spent 1 year in K, 4 years 1-4 and 5th grade in a third school. What a CF that was let me tell you. All due to the explosion in population in eastern Loudoun and new schools opening every year to keep up with the influx of new kids every year.

Very glad both are alum of JMU and are out in the workforce!!

Go Dukes!!
