UMSL basketball get very rare mentions on the local sports shows that are after the Saturday and Sunday late TV news. I have never heard any of the others mentioned.

It was years after moving here, and after learning of the other schools, that I found out about Lindenwood. And that was only when they rented some space in an office building near me and put their name on it.

Also, in you Colorado conglomeration, why didn't you include Metro State, UCCS, Adams State, Western State and Fort Lewis? We'll make Metro and USSC add football and while we're at it we will make UC-Denver add an athletic department.

This has to do more about football schools. As it is, only Washington, Missouri and Lindenwood have football. Lindenwood is the only one who could move up right away. Either one could go into the mostly private ACC schools. UMSL and the others you mentioned from that city area does not have football.

I did not add the non-football schools except for the ones who mentioned they are thinking of adding the sport. Adams State and others that I did not mentioned are in small towns. They would not moved a needle a bit.

First, realize that you are arguing with a crazy man... My dad always told me not to argue with two types of people- drunks and crazy people.

Second, as an alumnus of Metro State, they are forbidden by their Charter from ever sponsoring varsity football. They had a club once upon a time, but they cannot add FB right now. Just sayin'.

Maybe DU though? (I kid... I kid...)

Yeah, I know that Metro State is forbidden by its charter to have football. But it should be really easy to get the legislature to change the charter, right?03-lmfao

RE: If you could create your dream conference for football
I present the B1GPAC

Merger of the existing B!G Ten and Pac-12 conferences, plus 6 additional schools to make a 32 school superconference with 4 divisions of 8. The existing 26 schools must be retained. I chose the three service academies because of the former proposed Airplane Conference. From the Airplane grouping I also retained Notre Dame, replaced Penn with Syracuse given Penn's drop to FCS with the other Ivies, and replaced Georgia Tech with Virginia mostly for contiguity reasons. If this were done without expanding the footprint then Cuse is in for Tech/Duke and Pitt replaces Penn.

I have a similar conference myself. 6 Florida and 6 Georgia teams to make Florida Georgia Line Conference.

RE: If you could create your dream conference for football
I don't think conferences should have ever gotten bigger than 12 teams. With that in mind, my dream conference would be:

Big East Division:

Cincinnati
Connecticut
Louisville
Pitt
Syracuse
West Virginia

Big Ten Division:

Indiana
Kentucky
Michigan
Michigan State
Notre Dame
Ohio State

Cincinnati is reunited with most of their Big East rivals. The other division is loaded with an even split of basketball and football blue bloods. Outside of UConn and Syracuse, everyone is less than a 5-hour drive away.

If the goal is tight geography, I could also get down with replacing Syracuse/UConn with Penn State/Purdue for something like this:

North:

Michigan
Michigan State
Notre Dame
Penn State
Pitt
West Virginia

South:

Cincinnati
Louisville
Kentucky
Indiana
Purdue
Ohio State

In the above scenario, I would maybe swap Notre Dame and Purdue for better competitive balance.

RE: If you could create your dream conference for football
I admit, I have always "liked" the idea of the "Magnolia League" that would mirror the Ivy League up North:

I know all sorts of configurations have been bandied about over the years, but I think this one would be intriguing:
-SMU
-Rice
-Tulane
-Vanderbilt
-Sewanee
-Georgia Tech
-Duke
-The Citadel
-Davidson College
-VMI

I know that Sewanee is a D-3 school and would need to upgrade their FB. Davidson is a non-scholarship FCS program right now; VMI and the Citadel, are FCS. I suppose you could find a couple of others to round out 12...

Before I get branded with the "DavidSt" type of "dreamer" label, let me clarify... First I KNOW this conference is not going to happen. Second, when you look at the Ivy, you see a great diversity when it comes to FB...from Yale, which is a storied program that plays in the 70k sized Yale Bowl all the way down to places like Dartmouth that play in a 11k stadium. So, for example, Sewanee...Yeah, I get that they'd have to do upgrading and offer scholarships, but I wouldn't expect them to have to build a massive 50k stadium. So, obviously Georgia Tech and Duke would be at the high end of the equation and Sewanee and Davidson would be at the lower end.

Like the title of the thread said: "Dream" Conference.

RE: If you could create your dream conference for football
Here's another I would have enjoyed...

Before the ACC ever raided the Big East the first time, the Big East decides to expand to 12 and either keep Temple around or Villanova moves up to FBS. Somehow Notre Dame is coerced into joining (unrealistic, I know) and you get this:

Football North:

Boston College
UConn
Syracuse
Pitt
West Virginia
Notre Dame

Football South:

Miami
Virginia Tech
Louisville
Cincinnati
Temple (football only) OR Villanova
Rutgers

Basketball Only:

Georgetown
Villanova
St. John's
Providence
Seton Hall

12 football teams, 16 basketball teams. Still becomes the best basketball conference ever, but has better football by holding on to Miami and Virginia Tech and adding Notre Dame.

I have been pondering that... I think I'd go like this:

-Cincinnati
-Pittsburgh
-Louisville
-Penn State
-Ohio State
-Purdue
-Indiana
-Notre Dame
-Northwestern
-Kentucky
-West Virginia
-Illinois

I think that would be my "Dream" conference... Good diversity between "Large" Land-Grant schools, urban "city" schools, and Northwestern as the Private, elite school thrown in. Lots of rivalries, good football and basketball, all the trips are travel-able for fans.

(Please notice, that's a UC "dream conference." I do realize that someone is going to say "OSU without Michigan???")

If we were going a "Metro Route," I'd go this way:
North:
Boston College
Pittsburgh
Temple
Notre Dame
Northwestern
Cincinnati
Rutgers
Villanova (non FB)

South:
Memphis
Georgia Tech
Miami
Louisville
Duke
Florida State
East Carolina
Georgetown (non-FB)

Again a wider diversity of type of University, though all of them centered in "metropolitan areas." At least it is regional.

No offense to the thread participants, but unless your school is the biggest of the big or you have really low-key dreams, dream conferences almost always require way outpunting your coverage on some of the participating schools.

To wit: An ODU dream conference would probably include East Carolina and Navy (a reasonable goal) and Virginia and Virginia Tech (a ... less-reasonable goal). And then a bunch of other ACC and SEC schools, maybe with a Cincinnati or UConn mixed in. Not exactly grounded in reality.

It's like dreaming about dating the head cheerleader/valedictorian in high school when you've been friendzoned by the fifth chair tubaist from the alternative school.
