We can't even average 5000. Now granted, those 5000 are loud and even though we don't give away tickets like GCU or pack the gym with 3rd graders like Bakersfield, those 5 thousand are raucous and loud. NmSU still has the best home record by far not only in the Wac but in the nation. I'm hoping for bigger crowds but if we keep winning with 5000 and making Dan Majerle almost cry I'm happy with that. However, I don't think none of our current WAC mates care about our storied past or attendance stories. It's about as relavent as Seattles Final Four appearance in 1958.
And Bako or GCU fans (or some others in conference) AREN'T raucous and loud? Hey, at least most schools attendance can be said to be increading, not decreasing.

Currently mobile....8th floor of the Padre Hotel.

It's hard to get historical attendance numbers of all the WAC teams but here are the best attendance figures I could find on each school...

Cal State Bakersfield (1999) - 3,279
Chicago State (1985) - 1,739
Grand Canyon (2017) - 6,817
New Mexico State (1991) - 10,545
Seattle U (2011) - 4,614
UM Kansas City (2005) - 3,671
UT Rio Grande Valley (1990) - 3,537
Utah Valley (2012) - 2,952

NMSU has struggle to increase their attendance but it can be attributed to three factors...

1. The increase in ticket prices and changes in designated seating.
2. The change in WAC membership and Aggie fans difficulty to relate with the teams.
3. The disconnect between the Aggie fans and Coach Menzies over the years; as he continued to lose to UNM.

Aggie Attendance since joining the WAC...

2005: 4,781 - (6-22) - Last season in SBC, ailing Lou Henson leaves team midway through season.
2006: 6,525 - (16-14) Reggie Theus, first year in the WAC
2007: 9,413 - (25-9) Reggie Theus - NCAA Tournament - the creation of Reggie Nation.
2008: 6,153 - (21-14) Marvin Menzies - ticket price increase coincide with Menzies first season.
2009: 6,240 - (17-15) Marvin Menzies
2010: 5,659 - (22-12) Marvin Menzies - NCAA Tournament, probably Menzies' best Aggie team.
2011: 5,860 - (16-17) Marvin Menzies
2012: 5,572 - (26-10) Marvin Menzies - NCAA Tournament
2013: 6,213 - (24-11) Marvin Menzies - NCAA Tournament
2014: 5,948 - (26-10) Marvin Menzies - NCAA Tournament
2015: 6,150 - (23-10) Marvin Menzies - NCAA Tournament
2016: 4,768 - (23-11) Marvin Menzies - NIT
2017: 4,886 - (28-6) Paul Weir - NCAA Tournament
2018: ????? - (??-?) Chris Jans

Okay, since apparently this discussion is about the best home court advantage in the WAC, I will throw out some attendance numbers. Here are the home attendance figures for the last four years. As a whole the WAC is trending upward which is positive. However, only two schools (GCU & NMSU) sit above average so the WAC is still bottom heavy in terms of attendance. CSUB is showing lots of improvement though (from last to fourth) and even CSU is showing some improvement. Those on somewhat of a decline are SU and NMSU. Perhaps NMSU's touted home court advantage may be "a thing" but it may not be for long if the current trend continues.

"If the current trend continues"? You're citing the wrong metric. NM State's attendance dropped slightly but home wins went up.

And NMSU's homecourt advantage "perhaps may be a thing"? We went 5 years without losing a single home conference game--something like 70-1 in home conference play since 2012.

There may be some differences in game environment but currently WAC home-court advantage would rank:
1. NM State
2. Bakersfield
3. GCU
4. UVU
5. The field

I hope other WAC teams can build up their home-court advantage. UVU and Bakersfield have tons of potential. Isn't Bakersfield getting some upgrades to their gym?

I think 747 is taking external factor besides just attendance to establish a home court advantage.

The cozy confines and blue court of the Icardo Center make it difficult to beat CSUB on their court.

The vastness and acoustics of the Pan American Center... and, its' dead spots on the removable parquet floor give our Aggies a distinct advantage.

And, GCU is all about the Havoc and an amped up PA system. The main thing missing is GCU's talent on the court. Once Majerle consistently brings high D1 talent, then GCU will be "very" difficult to beat on their court.

Keep in mind, we are talking "home court advantage"; not arena game atmosphere. Currently, GCU games have the best game atmosphere. The place definitely rocks!

However, "if" Jans can replicate the teams his mentor has produced at Wichita State, then you will see the game atmosphere Aggie fans are capable of generating in the PAC. It can be as loud as a jet engine. I am hoping WAC fans will see a glimpse of this when NMSU meets UNM in the PAC this season. Aggie fans have an axe to grind.

That's part of the reason I had the issue because for at least the first two season of our move up, we didn't really have the talent to compete and I felt like this list was kinda punishing us because of that. Over the past two season, when I feel like GCU has had the talent to regularly compete, NMSU, GCU, and CSUB have lost a combined total of 5 games and it really should be 4, but I don't want to derail the thread.

Under Barnes CSUB is 58-14 at the Icardo. Some of those years CSUB was really bad, make of it what you will but yes CSUB has a great home court advantage and we saw that when NMSU came to town this year. Next year the average is going to go up again as well. I'm expecting half the games sold out. The community really rallied behind these guys at the end of the year.

I also think this years Utah Valley numbers are way off, everytime I watched them it was a ghost town.

I guess the component I left out with regards to the GCU Arena is the "intimidation" factor. Since NMSU has had some success there, it will take a while to establish that edge. However, NMSU does have the advantage of playing in the Pit and Haskins Center every year. So, GCU Arena maybe never be able to intimidate NMSU.

I did mention GCU current talent as opposed what I expect to be in a few years. However, that's the point of a home court advantage. It makes you better than you really are. It made NMSU good enough to beat UNLV in 1990.

I think GCU has a great thing going on at GCU Arena. However, they need to be careful they don't become too much like UNM used to be year ago. For many years, UNM was very tough in the friendly confines of the Pit but they could not take it on the road; well that was until Alford became their coach.

Prior Menzies, Aggie fans had pride in NMSU as being a great road team. They still were capable of winning WAC road game under Menzies. But there was a time before him as our coach when NMSU could win neutral site tournaments and OOC road games. Hopefully Jans can bring back Aggie confidence and continue what Weir had started with our win over ASU.

GCU students don't intimidate anyone. It's just one big party for them. A few years back, our student section was so rowdy that GCU players and Dan Majerle himself was talking trash to the NMSU student section after the game. That is how you intimidate teams. Utah State used to do a great job. GCU isn't their yet.

And nowadays NMSU can't draw 5000 a game when the team is on the 2nd longest win streak in the nation at the time.

Personally while being a Havoc at sporting events in my two years. I have been flipped off by players from UNM, Pacific, UC Riverside. Cussed out by more schools than I can count and a player from southern has to be restrained from swinging on me during a game. Yes it is a party for the majority of them but there are a select few that go hard at the opposing players and they show breaks in mental toughness.

NMSU students are good at getting in the heads of our opponents. I mean we are so good that after Utah State left the WAC for the MWC, Stew Morrill refused to continue the rivalry because they couldn't handle the rowdiness of the NMSU student section.

A few years back, our student section was so rowdy that GCU players and Dan Majerle himself was talking trash to the NMSU student section after the game. That is how you intimidate teams. Utah State used to do a great job. GCU isn't their yet.

I'm excited for the chance to go down there on a Saturday this year and see the best that the NMSU has to offer. Hopefully they are more creative than throwing their food at us hahahaha.

Hope they can make a game of it instead of getting their @sses kicked like every time GCU comes to Cruces. Hope our AD is charging GCU top dollar for your seats.
