Rice & FIU will only play 11 games and UTEP will play 10 ?????
Hey it's a prediction. But I'm pretty sure we'll play at least 12, and y'all too.
On the up side, at least all 14 of his conference records add up to a mathematically possible .500 average.
So we're really just talking four non-conference games being cancelled.
I just hope we get to play Houston.

Somebody is predicting that Charlotte will not come in last! In fact, he thinks we will finish ahead of four other programs, so that is progress. 5-7, 3-5 seems fair, but now is still the time for irrational optimism so I see one more win than he does. This would put us in the middle of the conference, make us bowl eligible, and give us our first FBS home win. We will need luck to go our way, but I think this is the year we turn the corner.

Well, good news! He invested some serious time and energy to revise the numbers and Rice prediction is now 2-10 so Houston game is secured
But to ensure y'all play Houston, FIU's record is now Quote:Florida International (2-1, 1-7)
Since we finish over .500 we should be in a bowl game, right?????

I liked the article better when our predicted record was 3-7.

No way Middle Tennessee wins the East with that crap defense. Unless Scott Shafer is a magician.

The article has us with 3 conference wins but if that happens more than likely it will come from a combination of UAB, FIU, FAU, and Marshall.

WH49er got to you first, but he is spot on. These are the likely candidates, but it would not surprise me to pick up one we shouldn't and lose one we should win, so it is anybody's guess.

Wouldn't really be much of a leap though. It seems like people forget we went 3-5 in conference last year with 2 late game blown leads that ended in one point losses. If either one of those were wins we would have finished 6-6 4-4 and been in a bowl. Not bad for first season of bowl eligibility.

RE: A conference results/champs prediction
This season will be somewhat crazy. On one hand, we have three clear leaders in the East: MTSU, WKU, and ODU with Marshall, FIU, and FAU, supposedly, far behind.
But, then, you get new fancy coaches at FIU and FAU, with a name and a media pull. And, as far as FAU is concerned, you get a team returning 20 of the 22 starters. Yet, on another hand, those 20 returnees are from the 2016 3-9 team. Will FAU and FIU bridge the gap to the top three? Will ODU fall back due to lack of a QB? Will Marshall return to respectability? What about Charlotte? Where do they rank?

True, you guys were pretty close to a 6-6 season. How much of a lost is Ogunjobi though? I thought his presence and play helped keep the game within possible win range in quite of few of those games.

I agree goliath74. The east has a lot of potential but a lot of unknowns. Should be real interesting

I think both FL schools should be improved. How much? We'll see. As far as ODU, we still have one if not the best running attack in the conference and a lot returning on the O-line and WR. As long as we have a serviceable QB we'll be able to move the ball against most defenses in the league. LB is a question on D but there's young talent so hopefully they'll gel early on.
But you're right, a lot of questions in the east. People were doubting WKU after Doughty left and they didn't miss a beat.

Larry was great, but no I wouldn't really agree with that.

I don't get the ODU hype. But then again, I haven't seen them be competitive against us, ever.

There's no hype they will be lucky to win 6 or 7 with this year's schedule. If they lose to UMass (they might be a slight favorite) it will be a long season. I see them losing to WKU, Marshall or UNT and MTSU in conference.
