If people only knew just how incompetent he was... and the sad part is he knew it from the get go.

I point that out every time somebody tries to play the "Fedora didn't leave anything" card. There was a sh*t ton of returning starters on both sides of the ball from '11 to '12. The full breakdown is in the archive somewhere. Johnson just had no clue what to do with them and ran off a bunch.

Even with a new QB, had we remotely stuck with the program instead of Martha & the gang wanting to return to "real footbawl," that team makes a bowl. Even with that albatross around their neck, they still almost stumbled into 3 wins.

I watched that team in person twice. They did have a lot of talent. I will say, though, that they looked pretty small overall, to my relatively unskilled eye at least. Fedora relied on trickery and speed more than size, and probably would have kept winning had he stayed, but EJ and company didn't understand that kind of football, at all. Or maybe they just had a **** strength program.

Can't forget that the Golden Eagle hotline show changed forever after that season. No more live calls.

Blind Billy from NC and Clint from Monticello were the USM version of the Wack Pack.

Will never forget PW's deranged rant late in the year. "Fedora was a dang cheerleader, he wasn't a foobaw corch," plus my personal favorite "We played 12 SEC teams when I was here, 14 of them on the road"

Then you had James from Beaumont calling in and asking for EJ's resignation only for Cox to start grunting and cutting him off, citing "technical difficulties". Though to be fair to Cox, I felt like he started letting people grill EJ in the last show or 2.

Mike Price tried to defend EJ, too, but at least he didn't put down Fedora in doing so. P.W. was just an embarrassment.

that season is forever "etched" in the infamy of TTT.....

Reminds me of Buddy D's post-game show back when he was calling it "What's The Point" instead of "The Point After." That **** was not to be missed.

I remember the ECU fan calling in and asking something along the line of "do you plan on coaching the rest of the season or are you gonna do the right thing for USM and resign before the season is over". Cox didnt expect that and pauses a few seconds and says "let's go to the next caller now"

It stood for "none" (as in how many games hubby will win).

You should expand your willingness to wish ill on people. He didn't decide to hire himself.

This may sound super harsh but 2012 was like watching a beloved family member drown and there's nothing you can do to save them.

well stated.....everyone else suffered....most importantly, the players...

I'm still dumbfounded the 'heads' hired that guy....maybe his trophy wife provided gratis lap dances as the final check mark 03-wink

what a pos attitude he had during his introduction presser......I wanted to punch him square on the bridge of ze nose.....what a pompous arsehole...

I still make an attempt to keep a sense of humor about it all....it's not easy....

To add to the burn..... The next season when he was DC at Auburn and playing in the NC game, Herbstreet was practically blowing the guy all night long from the booth. He kept going on and on about how great EJ was.

Again, Dale Gribble said it best:

(07-10-2017 04:58 PM)AndreWhere Wrote:  The things that stand out about that year in my mind:

* QBs couldn't stay healthy, except for Alford, who sucked. My hunch is that the staff changed up the plays and the OL calls and it resulted in chaos.

* Coaching staff generally seemed to be phoning it in.

* So many turnovers. Could also tie back to player confusion.

* EJ was constitutionally incapable of keeping his foot out of his mouth. Instead of saying, "yeah, Collins would start at South Carolina, but maybe as a linebacker," stupid EJ rearranged a few words to make it sound like he was throwing his best player under the bus. Instead of saying, "well, you can't salt away a football game in the 2nd quarter, you've just got to keep on plodding away," he said, in part, "we knew we weren't going to win the game." He's just not suited to being an HC because he's a grumpy, contrarian old man, who'd rather win an argument than a football game, and the players just wouldn't work hard for him. They had zero confidence that listening to him would result in good things.

Regarding the offense, we were running Petal's offense with Alford under center. While I do not blame Buckley since that was what he was familiar with and he was not hired to be the OC, it was too simple. Put 8 in the box and challenge Alford to beat you throwing it, which he couldn't. If Campbell had stayed healthy, I think Alford would have taken over regardless. I firmly believe that was the deal when Alford was recruited and Ellis was going to make good on it.

What's sad is that Ellis slammed USM for being poor in an interview in June 2013--used it as the primary excuse for his failure of leadership. "Hard to win there." bull****. Others won there, Fedora and Bower just prior to Buttermilk's arrival.
