Isn't there a local soccer team called the Birmigham Hammers?

Yes we have the Hammers but they play in a lower division. In the soccer pyramid the USL falls right under MLS, so it's pretty legit. A lot of well supported USL teams or markets end up in the MLS. I'm pretty sure they have stadium requirements though and I'm not sure we have an adequate facility. Does anyone have a subscription to post the rest of the article?

There has been talk of soccer as a consideration for the downtown stadium. There is also a match on ESPNU tonight (currently under rain delay then went to "30 for 30"). Question: Is artificial turf an issue for USL as it is for MSL?

League prefers grass, but no rules in place mandating it.
