Anyone know why they do a "top 144" instead of top 100, or 150, or something like that?

I think part of it is with the auto bids, that's why they don't do just the top 100.

It's fun to look at.

I have no real opinion on the early ones. It will be interesting to see this list get revealed more, especially October and early November.

It's brutal seeing the MVC in that cluster. It goes to show just how bad it's getting out there.

I think UNI may finally lose its coach after this season, especially if they play like the have the past few years (minus last season). What's to keep him around now that Wichita escaped?

I am shocked they had to go at least 144 to include Georgia 04-jawdrop

Since they are announcing one team per day, planning to announce #1 on the opening day of the season, it could be that they just counted how many days were left when they finished ranking everybody.

Seems to me that the announcement of #1 will be the most anti-climactic announcement in history.

Approximate number of postseason teams?

NCAA -- 68
NIT -- 32
CBI -- 16
CIT -- 26-32

So 142-148, not counting the Vegas 16 that didn't exist when they started doing this and probably no longer exists.

Jacobson has a million dollar deal at UNI. His recruiting background is Minnesota, Dakotas, Iowa and Wisconsin. That's why he hasn't left.

added in 126 Manhattan.

So far seen 17 conferences with schools.

With 125 teams to go- got 63 NCAA tourney teams and 32 NIT teams left. So about 4 weeks until we start to get to NIT teams. As I always say with this, when you get down to around the last even 16 teams out or 1st 16 teams in- it's really about the same. 2-3 games can easily make or break a school in a year.

We've seen now 21 different conferences. Only 11 to go now.

Missouri St joins at #120. #2 in the MVC. It'll be really telling when we see the AAC 1st rep to see just how much Wichita has improved their lot.

Memphis joins at #119. #9 in the AAC.

Assuming that ECU, Tulane, and USF are not in the top 144(which is very likely)-
MVC- 1 team in the top 119- meaning assuming Valpo isn't included, would have been like 16 games vs sub 120 teams.
AAC- 9 teams in the top 119- meaning Wichita is scheduled in conference play to play 3 games vs sub 120 teams

Huge difference.

Ouch.

And you have to just wonder what that does in the minds of Mo State, SIU, and UNI...those guys have to carry it now, because nobody else is good for it, other than maybe the new guy...
