Little known fact soccer is huge in the Trump suburbs of the ATL area. I have no idea why folks pigeon hole soccer fans politically. My daughters play soccer so did my cousin and nephews and none of my family would vote for a democrat with a gun to our heads ..(which might happen if Hitlerly won) I kid I kid....sorta.

Not political but the reason soccer is pigeon holed for the masses is due to all the kids their parents put out there because its the only sport they can in anyway participate in, like standing around and wondering what they are supposed to do next. For the under 10 crowd, it is the sport for non athletic kids that want to stay non-athetic.

Have you ever watched a tball game? It is exactly what you are describing. Tell me a sport that requires more conditioning. That post is ignorance personified and is part of the stereotype why soccer is pigeon holed in the us. The same type of people are the rub some dirt on the concussion people.

Gonna have to agree 100% with Joe on this one. That post by JC is just ignorance.

I stand by what I said. And yeah you are right about tball but its not quiet as bad. They have to bend, pick up, throw, and run bases. You will note the comments were for 10 and under.

With any sport, basics are learned at young ages. I've seen exciting t-ball games and I've seen exciting U6 soccer matches. Just because you don't understand the sport doesn't make it a bad sport.

I understand the games and have spent many afternoons watching. Now tell me if this is not true, what sport do most parents first think of when wanting their kids, especially non athletic, to participate in sports? If you tell me anything other than soccer, you are not telling me the truth.

The mindset is changing in this country, from soccer being a leisure activity to an avid sport. Give it time, of course the south will have holdouts, because the majority of the south is too ignorant to watch and enjoy the sport because of "low scoring", even though Bama idiots would gladly watch a 4 hour 3-0 game, and call it exciting. The development in this country has finally improved, and Christian Pulisic is proof of it. Soccer is on the rise, the growth in popularity of the MLS and quality of domestic players has greatly improved. The main problem is the "pay to play model" in the United States, as long as that is in effect, you will see the stigma of parents forcing their uninterested child to play soccer.

I think this "mindset" thing is your way of ageeing with me. Thanks for being honest.

For those of you scoring at home, and those that are alone, Florida redwolf doesn't respect soccer. its fine that he doesn't like it or understand it.

Now he can move along and feel better about himself and we can continue conversing about a wonderful sport.

Completely unrelated to the thread, but after going back and reading all the hate for Soccer, it became prudent to mention.

Gallup just recently finished their polling to discover the most popular sport for Americans. As expected, Football was number 1 by a very wide margin. What was unexpected is that Soccer had made significant gains on both basketball and baseball. Despite almost no one in the United States over 55 watching Soccer (Literally, It was less than 1 percent) Soccer was only 2 percentage points behind baseball to become the 3rd most popular sport in the country. Among Young Adults, up to age 35 I believe, Soccer is the 2nd most popular sport in the country. Ahead of baseball and tied with basketball.

Given that eventually all those old fogies who hate everything they think is un-American will die off, Soccer will probably become the first sport to supplant the Big 3 in the next decade or so.

Not being an American sport has nothing to do with it. Watching two teams running around all game and maybe scoring once is beyond boring. I thought the indoor game might be better. Smaller field more goooooaaaaallllsssss. Still not that good.

Quote:STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) -
Tormenta FC will be announced as the first official team in the new United Soccer League - Division 3.

The USL vice president said on a radio show/podcast, Soccer Down Here, that Tormenta will be a founding member of the league.

The official unveiling will be on Thursday and you can watch the news conference live on D3’s official Facebook page.
Quote:The league is set to begin sometime in 2019. Again, the official announcement is expected on Thursday. More information is also expected on the proposed Tormenta stadium.

Not being an American sport has nothing to do with it.

Its purely a generational thing and the kids that were driven around by the "soccer moms" are fueling this recent trend. With all the CTE stuff with football.. care to guess which sport this demographic will put their kids in? It is only going to fuel it even more over the next 30 years.

In my lifetime (I'm 32), I believe Soccer will be one of the top professional sports in the US.
