Summer baseball update
SID has posted some updates online
http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/rice...rstats.pdf
As I mentioned the other day, I'm really surprised by the lack of numbers of guys we have playing. Just two in the Cape (and DiCaprio is really struggling there). And some others in lesser leagues, but where are Chandler, Canterino, Amador, Sarchet, Lammons, Orewiler, Kravetz, Wright, Dunlap and Esquivel, and then other recruits (although it's nice to see Cruz and the Florida recruit's numbers)? I'll assume a couple of pitchers still aren't ready to pitch in Pettitte and Salinas.

As I mentioned in multiple previous posts, both Lammons (knee) and Dunlap (shoulder) are rehabbing from June surgeries. Amador and Esquivel both finished the season with tired arms and are sitting out the first 6 weeks of Summer ball. According to their parents, if the soreness is alleviated they may join teams for the final 4 - 6 weeks. Evan Kravetz is again playing for Neptune in the California League. Canterino was signed up to play in California I believe, but may be sitting out for awhile given the amount of innings he threw this year. As for Salinas and Pettitte, hopefully Josh will be ready by Fall Ball, but it's unlikely Ricky will be pitching competitively before April.

The Neptune roster lists Addison Moss & Jackson Parthasarathy, but not Evan Kravetz.
(UPDATE: Kravetz and Garrett Gayle are on the Santa Barbara Foresters this summer.
Any info on Chandler, Sarchet & Orewiler?

Chronicle article on Jon Duplantier
This seemed to be a good place for this - it's summer baseball, just not current college players.
http://www.chron.com/sports/rice/article...257422.php
From the stats it sounds like Jon is off to a good start. If he stays healthy hard to imagine he won't pitch in the majors some day.

Jon was named to the US Futures Team that will play the International team over the All Star break. We could see him on TV.

Not just "a good start"; a great start. He didn't allow an earned run his first 5 starts, and his K:BB ratio is off the charts.

It would be even more fun if this comment was literal, in that he had not walked anyone!

RE: Summer baseball update
Here's the latest weekly update...
http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/rice...rstats.pdf
...Trei Cruz continues to absolutely light up the California League...
16 games, 50 ABs, .420 AVG, 1 HR, 5 doubles/triples, 10 RBIs, 10 SBs..
Those are incredible numbers for anyone in a quality league, let alone an incoming Freshman recruit playing against returning college players. Can't wait to see him at Reckling.

umm, that's a little too strong a performance...hopefully we don't have to sweat the Astros making a ridiculous offer to him. If memory serves, I believe LaRoche had a similar stellar summar that translated into a big offer that kept him away from Rice back in 2004.

True, but LaRoche didn't have an existing family legacy at Rice, nor did he come from the same affluent backround. Trei has been wearing Rice gear almost as soon as he was born, and has been attending Rice baseball, football and basketball games with his dad from the time he could walk.

Andy LaRoche was also a JUCO transfer from Grayson coming into Rice as a Junior (eligibility-wise, that is), not a freshman just out of HS, to the extent that could make a difference.
What's the deadline for MLB to sign so we know who we're going to lose?

We aren't waiting on any decisions, though. Cruz is our only drafted recruit and he isn't signing, and all of our current players who were drafted have already signed.
