66 Days to Kickoff... Defensive Coordinator Bob Trott
Note, there is no #66 currently listed on our official roster.
I will cut Mr. Trott some slack and ignore that his alma mater is UNCheat. ;>)
The job he did last year with this defense was THE reason we are defending national champs (IMO). We had an offense capable of making a title run the previous few years. But, with a swiss cheese defense there was just no way we were going to advance in the playoffs. Not anymore.
Thank you, Bob. And, keep up the great work!! Worth every penny we are paying you - and, then some.

Yes. It didn't matter what we did offensively if we still had the defenses we've seen from 2012-2015, we wouldn't be national champions right now.

66 Days to Kickoff... Defensive Coordinator Bob Trott
66 was John Kraus's number. The epitome of a hard working, blue collar, in the trenches, pick your cliquey kinda guy. John was a 190 pound walk-on O-lineman in the last year of Purzekis time as coach. Coach Scherer comes in, starts off-season workouts and sees this kid running on the track with a Mohawk, and asks one of the assistance who he is. After told he's a walk-on O-lineman, Coach Scherer laughs and tells the assistant to tell John that he better cut the Mohawk off or not show up for another workout. Scherer thought he'd never see the undersized lineman again.
John shows up the next day clean shaven ready to work. Work he did. Over the next couple years, John transferred his body into a 275 pound starting offensive guard. John was the offensive team captain on the 1994 playoff/Lambert Cup team, and was an AP All-American and Walter Camp All-American. John was just as successful in the classroom, constantly holding a GPA in the high 3s. I think he would've graduated summa *** laude.
John died in a car accident on Mt. Clinton Pike about 2 weeks shy of graduation in April 1995.

I think I remember him. Didn't he wear the same ballcap just about every single day. A Budweiser one, I think.

Yes, in fact that hat was so much apart of his persona there was a flower arrangement at his funeral made to replicate the hat.
