Going there for a game reminded me of traveling to away games during high school. Was not impressed in the least bit by Greenville, the campus, or the stadium.

Dude, did you even go downtown? I'm from Greenville, SC, so I'm biased, but Greenville is awesome downtown. And I'm certainly not alone in thinking so. They've been praised by dozens of publications. Also, Furman's stadium is dull, but the campus is gorgeous! The lake with Paris Mountain in the background is pretty by any standard. It's not App, but it is pretty.

Lists aside, by the 2018 season Arkansas State will have football facilities that rival pretty much anyone in the G5. The change in the last few years is amazing.

What's the top 10 of the ones you've been to?
Obviously I'll exclude the #1 KBS.

I'm really into history and tradition, so some of the ones l've been to a lot - Paulson at GA So, Dowdy-Ficklen at ECU and Edwards Stadium at Marshall - are all nice, but hard for me to get excited about. IMO it's hard to beat the Armed Forces group. Michie Stadium at West Point, Falcon Stadium at Air Force and Marine Corps Stadium at The Naval Academy. Nippert Stadium at Cincinnati is way cool and even though the upper deck is gone there is something special about that statue of Bear Bryant and the history of Legion Field in Birmingham. I'd have to put those at the top of my list. The rest are kind of a toss up.

Completely, albeit respectfully, disagree about Legion Field AppMan. That place is decrepit, falling apart and in desperate need of being torn down. No one associated with UAB wants to play there. 99 percent of visiting teams/fans don't want to go there. It's a in a rough part of town and is no shape to hosting FBS football.

Furman's stadium is meh. They do have a new press box that is on par with some of the SBC press box. Greenville is one of the nicest cities in the country and a really good time. Idk what high schools (besides Texas) have a stadium that sits 16,000 fans.

Nope. I can't think of a luxury box in the SBC this is on par with.

RE: Top G5 Football Stadiums to Visit
The question is are we listing stadiums that would be neat or campuses that are neat. Looks like some of yall have done some of each...

I've been to Army and the stadium itself is just OK but the campus is really cool and get a guided tour it's worth it. Lots of history, tradition and the setting is really neat.

If we are talking stadiums only here's my list (only ones I've not been to...and in no particular order and I chose on-campus stadiums only)
1. North Texas...I've not seen the new stadium in person
2. Texas State...saw it under construction but not finished
3. East Carolina...looks cool in pics
4. Colorado State...new stadiums always interest me.
5. Akron...it's all new too and looks cool on TV
6. Marshall
7. BYU...although I kind of consider them a P5 school
8. Houston...another new stadium
9. Navy...but kind of for nostalgia more than the stadium itself.
10. Never been to App St, Ga So, Ga St, Coastal, NMSU or Idaho so I'd like to see those places to see how we stack up with our conference mates.

Now for Locale...Hawaii

FCS - I'd like to see some of the Ivy League stadiums...Harvard and Yale in particular.

Here's a list of Some stadiums I've seen or been to a game with some commentary:
1. Utah...really neat stadium with cool views.
2. Utah St...ho hum stadium but cool views.
3. FIU...lower bowl is just nothing special...if they ever double deck it, it could be cool but not right now.
4. Army...as I said before cool setting and stadium is nice just nothing special.
5. ULM...west side is super tall and lots of potential but needs some refurbishment, east side kind of high school.
6. ULL...went before endzone was completed...it has a big time stadium feel as it could be enlarged into a monster but it needed some refurbishment at the time.
7. USA...Ladd Peebles is functional but not by much...bad neighborhood and NOT on campus.
8. La Tech...big high school stadium.
9. USM...I like how this stadium is on top of the field...tight and probably really loud with a packed house.
10. Liberty Bowl...big but kind of boring.
11. MTSU...not bad but nothing special
12. Troy...I like this stadium a lot. It'll be intimidating once they finish their end zone project.
13. NIU...much like La Tech...big high school stadium....and COLD!
14. Ole Miss...pretty impressive but it is the SEC...it should be.
15. Arkansas...see Ole Miss
16. Oklahoma...big and loud...just a big time feel but the stadium was built to pack fans in...not overly unique.
17. Kansas...metal horseshoe with a track...Yuck.
18. Ohio State...saw it years ago before some of the end zone expansion and updates but even then this is an ICONIC stadium...lots of seats and lots of character. The Greco-Roman columns outside the stadium are really cool.
19. Cincinnati very unique stadium in how it was squeezed into campus but not overly impressive otherwise.
20. Texas A&M...the old stadium was gargantuan and intimidating, I can only imagine what the new one is like.
21. Texas Tech...I like the overall design of the stadium but it was smaller than I expected.
22. Virginia Tech...I went before the end zone updates....very impressive stadium, crowd and beautiful setting. I can imagine now it is even more impressive.
23. LSU...saw it on a non-game day...once again before some more recent updates...It was a very imposing stadium....kind of spooky up on the top row!!!
24. Tulsa...it was kind of disappointing when I saw it and then they decrease the size!

The atmosphere of the stadium was very much like a high school football game; small, vendors with carts, get a ticket and sit wherever you want. It's not incredibly nice.

Say what you will about Ladd Peebles (USA) and I'll mostly agree. However; it is NOT located in a "bad neighborhood" at all. The residents work directly with the MPD and the City of Mobile to provide convenient and SAFE parking in their yards AND it happens to be one of the SAFEST neighborhoods in Mobile according to MPD statistics.

Many people just jump to the conclusion that LP is in a "bad neighborhood" because most of the residents they see are black. What they don't know is it's a safe neighborhood - mostly retirees and middle class families working in the retail, educational, medical and other respectable industries. Many are also deeply involved in the community for various items.

Nope, Ladd Peebles fails in a lot of areas but "located in a bad area" isn't an issue. PLEASE don't let you keep that from coming to Mobile to come see your team get their butts kicked (or not).

I'd never have guessed it would've been possible for A&M to turn Kyle Field into something gorgeous. It was so damn ugly. Went there for the NMSU@A&M game last year and was blown away. It really hurts to admit that but there it is.

Historic Legion Field is a dump. Can't believe I'm agreeing with a Troy fan, but it's true. Of the stadiums I've been to I'd say Troy and Southern Miss both have pretty stadiums.

It's been 15 years since I was there and even then it was in a bad state, so I get where you're coming from. I also understand it's not in the best neighborhood. Have to realize I am a sports history junkie and even had to make a trip to OLD Tiger Stadium when we played Michigan. I just could'nt get past all the ghost's of the great games, players and coaches of days gone by. Guess that's why I liked going to the Camellia Bowl in Montgomery and the Crampton Bowl. It's also why I think Ladd Peebles is a really cool place. Most people today want a new, shiny facility and while there is certainly nothing wrong with that I believe you can take the old places and make 'em cool again. It's a shame we let these old shrines deteriorate and fade away. You could have the best of both worlds.

AppManDG, we'll never make any of these lists, but regardless. Are you going to make the trip to UMass. We have very few luxury box suites in the Press-Skybox. We do have a super suite in the Champion Center. Have two passes and perhaps depending could bring you before the game. You'd be welcome to our tail gate.

We have this game as a sure loss, but feel 4-5 wins is possible. The first 4 games will tell our story. We could be 3-1 or 1-3.

Kidd Brewer's setting at 3333 is hard to beat.

To me, Freedom's Flight at Paulson and the overall game day atmosphere make it one of the best venues at any level.

Troy and USA are the only SBC school's I've had a chance to see. No one has been to Teddy Cat yet.

Thank you for the very generous offer, but I won't be making the trip. Needing hip replacement surgery and one of the best dates for me is 2nd week of October. I'd really like to make it. Besides the game my son and I are big Redsox fans and enjoy any chance to visit Boston.

I still remember when Stadium Journey put us in their top 20 stadiums above UGA and Tech. They had a representative at the 2014 App game and he said it was the best atmosphere he's ever seen at the G5 level.
