The 1989 SW Louisiana game with Bill letting crowd noise call the final play was classic (Robinson ran for TD on final play for win).

I was there in Detroit ...did not hear the Bill Baker broadcast. What a game! So many emotions...I was a wreck for the entire first half when it looked like we were going home empty handed again.

Yea, did you notice how nervous his laugh was in the radio call? You could tell how important the game was to him.

Yeah, that first half was awful, and the malaise extended into the second half. Thank goodness we won.

As for Baker, we both started at NIU the same year. He's part of the university's fabric. He in the IPF prior to a recent homecoming game. I did my best "Goodbye Toledo!" yell, which made him smile.

As a former network radio engineer for Huskie basketball and football broadcasts back in the early to mid 1990s, I can confirm what a class act and a good person to work with that Bill Baker was - an institution!
