Also, apparently Giannini is assisting with the ULM search? That would explain a lot.

Someone with no ties to Meridian CC would be preferable.

Giannini is helping with the Athletic Director search not the baseball job from what I understand.

ULM beat writer said he's assisting with the baseball search, though he could be wrong.

Yeah, Ostrander is probably not happening. Berry might not want to poach a coach from his good buddy Burroughs.

I kinda like the SELA guy if we can't get Ostrander.

Well if BA Vollmuth is on the short list, experience may not matter.

I was under the impression that pitching coaches actually did stuff. Assumed most were former pitchers or at least catchers. Am I wrong there?

I saw it mentioned that Fed could take BA with him as his hitting coach if the move happens.

“I'm very happy for Mike and this opportunity to advance his career,” said Southern Miss Head Coach Steve Berry. “Coach Federico was a big part of the success we have had here at Southern Miss for the last eight years. He is an excellent coach and person that will do very well at ULM.”

Maybe that's why we didn't play them this past season...their coach was calling Steve Berry's phone instead of Scott Berry

I don't know why USM ever fired G. He is pretty much the AD to end all ADs.

Pitching wise (which is his specialty) it seems like he went mainly with JuCos...and it feels like we've always had a dang good sidearm closer the last 10 plus years but oddly they've always seemed to be a high schooler.

"What kind of recruiter is Fed?" is a debated question. Most of us dislike Fed (the highest praise I've ever read for him on here was "not as bad as people say") but we fight over whether he was lousy on the front-end of the process (recruiting) or after that (developing)...or both.

I think he was bringing in talent. If you look at stats, I think strikeouts are a good indicator of raw talent and what kind of "stuff" a pitcher has. Our pitching staffs' strikeout numbers were usually pretty high under Fed. We had a good number of guys who threw 90+ with at least a good secondary pitch or two. But so many of those pitchers never really developed or only had one good year.

As far as HS or JUCO, it was a mix--more heavily relied on JUCO's in his early years. The best pitchers he brought in were JUCOs (Pierce, Fisk, Talley) or high school recruits who were good from the moment they got here (McCarty, Roney, Sandlin).

Get a real pitching coach. There are so many small schools out there that have consistently phenomenal pitching. Scoop one of them up. If we hire within, it tells me we really never want to go back to Omaha. Those teams have great pitching. Until we get that, we'll be stuck losing in regionals.

Yeah....and make sure to recruit guys who can catch a pop up. BTW make sure they can successfully execute that intentional walk. Then we may get through a regional.

Doing pretty well, BDR. "They" started me on a two year immunotherapy treatment...Keytruda.....for recurrent Melanoma. Infused every 3 weeks, and started my first on 6-19. After every 4th treatment, they do a scan to check progress or lack of. This is the stuff they gave Jimmy Carter, who went into complete remission. So far no side effects.....but it's way early. Thank goodness for Medicare. Cost 7 grand a pop (Merck charged 15k till last Jan.).
