RE: So who goes to the Summit?
Well, we have heard from some D2 schools that they wanted to be D1.

Merrimack
LIU-Post
Indiana, PA.
Columbus State
Augusta
Texas A&M-Commerce
Texas A&M-Kingsville
Tarleton State
Angelo State
Lindenwood
Rowan
Bellarmine

Hints of heading to big time D1 with a lot of money being donated to the schools and major upgrading?
Central Washington
Azusa Pacific
East Bay State
Dixie State
Montana State-Billings (got a lot of money donated last year for fielding a football team.)
Colorado Mesa
Colorado State-Pueblo
West Texas A&M

Maybe Minnesota might want a sibling like their Big Ten brothers in FBS football? Minnesota State-Mankato could just be called Minnesota State to be the flagship for the Minnesota State group of schools.

UMKC and Chicago State

Chicago State is a joke, the Summit would need to be on its death bed for that dumpster fire to come back to the league.

Absolutely zero.

If the Montana schools, Dakota schools and Idaho wanted to form an FBS league it makes a lot of sense but so far I've seen nothing that points to any of them wanting that.

If it's a Summit school hopping aboard the Horizon train, UMKC's got to be the one coming back in.

There is no "thereafter" for Chicago State when the WAC contract expires.

I wouldn't guess one of the Indy or Ft. Wayne schools as the next Summit school to bolt. Denver sticks out.

Have Idaho and NMSU help the Montana's and NDSU reclassify while the others get their sh!t together.

N. Colo. gets the Summit to 6 football schools and enough for them to sponsor.

Then don't engage him, on that particular tangent. Please!

The thread itself can be legitimate. It does appear that IUPUI is going to be leaving the Summit very shortly for the Horizon League, starting play in 2017 ...

There's zero chance, now, that the Summit will be able to replace them for 2017. Will be down to 6 in baseball and men's soccer (E ILL affiliate), and some men's olympic sports will also be getting pretty low ... but the league will survive until UND comes aboard.

Would be nice to add another team at that time, as well. Would love for it to be N Colorado, but like I said, I'm not sure if that's feasible right now.

I've also talked in the past about E ILL being brought over from the OVC. Never got any traction in discussion, and have no idea if that could even be a thing that they'd be interested in. But as of now, there is still technically a 12th spot open for another football team in the MVFC ...

RE: So who goes to the Summit?
Allowing what's scheduled already (UND in 2018), I see the Summit losing another team (after IUPUI) before it can take action and add one (like EIU or UNoCo).

The Summit has become what some pre-xDSU Summit schools feared: an I-29-centric conference.

IUPUI goes; that'll get IPFW looking in earnest. And then what becomes of WIU.

RE: So who goes to the Summit?
Sica, your thoughts on the following Summit setup?

Oral Roberts
Omaha (NCHC)
Denver (NCHC)
N Colorado
UND (NCHC)
NDSU
USD
SDSU
Duluth (NCHC)
Mankato (NCHC adds them)

- Not sure where W ILL goes ... perhaps OVC?
- Duluth and Mankato follow the Omaha blueprint and drop football to move up to DI (which is perfectly reasonable, and MN politics would have nothing to say about)

I hate to bring this up, but here's a thread at the d2 message board that states unequivocally, that there's no movement in Minnesota by any school to move their whole athletic program to D-I status.

No it doesn't. That's just your fantasy. You have no insider info on anything having to do with DII Minn schools.

At this point, you are so unreasonably bent on preventing it from happening, that I can pretty much dismiss whatever you say. Unless you have a link that actually backs you up.

Seriously, we have to go through this all over again? The thread says that nobody, not even MSU Mankato have the funds needed to go to D-I. And one of the posts says, at least as Mankato is concerned, that they want to keep football. But if football does get dropped, they might have no choice but to drop to D-III and possibly downgrade hockey.

The Summit has had discussions with MN schools in the past, not saying it will happen but with the league becoming more compact geographically it might be more appealing them.

That said I think the Summit sets its sights on the WAC.

Well, that thread and it's posters are wrong. Because I say so.

Now what of it?

The only WAC school I'd have interest in is UMKC. Would like to prevent the geography of the Summit from sprawling any more out of control than it already is.

UMKC to the Summit is a no-brainer; trouble is people making that call have no brains!

What's in it for the Dakota schools? We were in a DII league with Minnesota schools that held us all back. This time, they would rob us of many recruits and would have even worse finances. We need to make more inroads into Minnesota, and that means keeping Minnesota schools out. With reciprocity, the Dakota schools are a better option than Minn St schools anyway, and the enrollment of Minnie residents reflects that.

UNI and UND were the most dominate all sports schools when we were D2 in the same league in the 70's and earlier. Some things don't change.

RE: So who goes to the Summit?
You're already in the same league as those (two) Minn DII programs, well Mankato should be in that league ... but they already do compete with you for recruits ... in the main sport you care about, hockey.

Next main sport, football, wouldn't compete because they'd drop their program to move up.

Lastly, bball, vball, etc. ... already a lot of competition.

So, disagree 100%. Who cares if they wouldn't move up from NCC together, back in the early 2000's? Neither would UND, at that time!

Rarely to we go up against Duluth and St Cloud St for hockey recruits. They are going for four year players, while we're going against Big Ten schools, BC, BU, and Denver. Where are coach needs a grinder or a utility type guy, thats where we sometimes compete, but they are looking at him as a star.

Basketball recruiting would take a major hit as well as vball.

If Minnesota wanted to build up the Minn St's, they would stop reciprocity agreements with the Dakotas.

You do know that the Summit kicked out CSU years ago? Again, why can't people do their homework?

The Summit will move towards UMKC and Northern Colorado. They will likely try to get both and I think they will. If UNC come Murray State will be in the OVC forever. The MVFC will divide into east/west divisions.

My guess is IPFW is going to join IUPUI in the Horizon along with RMU next year. That will end Horizon, MVC, Summit realignment for a while. The MVC will stay, no one else is leaving anytime soon. The Horizon will have their 12 and the Summit will have their 10.

And NO Minnesota D2 school will ever go D1 and we don't want them to. No the Montana schools are not moving east.
