It's IUPUI

It seems LeCrone fibbed to Tony Paul when he told him it was a Baseball school
http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/...103102686/

They have not yet accepted. Terms are being negotiated. (Note, unlike PFW they are near a major Airport)

This comment by Paul yesterday may have been prescient:
Given the modest budgets and travel strain, it would seem adding Grand Canyon by itself wouldn’t make a ton of sense unless a second, western school was added, so schools making road trips could hit both stops at once to save money.

GCU entry seems to be tied at the hip to either UD or NMSU

Now IUPUI

Wow kind of surprising considering they don't have a baseball team. This also makes it seem almost certain the Horizon will be adding NMSU and GCU next year.

I got the same feeling from that article too. Who's the most western team in the horizon? Maybe the wac should go on the offensive

It's Chicago which is absurd to say. The WAC can't go on the offensive now. This is a death blow, I don't think there's anything the WAC can do to survive now.

Is UIC above playing in the same conference as Chicago State? If CSU could get their sh*t together that'd be a pretty easy road trip

Denver or New Mexico State.

Next Friday is the end of the month. It seems unlikely IUPUI will have all the ducks lined up (trustee meeting at the earliest would be Monday, more likely Wednesday if the decide over the weekend) and the Summit notified and and the exit fee arraignments in place in time for the July 1st start of the 2017-18 year. That doesn't seem like enough time to properly get everything in order. So we are looking at IUPUI joining the Horizon in 2018-19.

GCU and NMSU or UD could join at the same time and they have really until about March next year to get it together.

This is not done.

How many times do I have to say it, Horizon League wants GCU/NMSU as a package deal. It's GCU who killed the deal. They have absolutely no interest in joining the Horizon League.

GCU was vetted by the Horizon, they absolutely have interest. Take your head out of the sand. It's probably going to happen whether you want it or not.

Just because the Horizon isnt adding GCU now, doesnt mean they arent coming. The comish said they want 12-14 schools. It actually makes MORE sense to wait to add GCU when NMSU can come too at the same time. The end of the WAC auto-bid is near....

Also, the Horizon is now down a school. Unless the Summit wants to stay at 9 members, we can all start saying goodbye to UMKC

They're probably adding IUPUI if you didn't see. UMKC has been mentioned nowhere in Horizon talks. I bet they'll wind up back in the Summit at some point.

......thats literally what I just said......UMKC would be the 10th school for the Summit now that IUPUI is gone. Ill edit to to make it more clear I guess

WIU/UNO/FW/ORU probably want UMKC.
But Dakota's+Denver probably want Northern Colorado.

RE: Horizon has offered an unnamed school... GCU?
NoCo wont join the Summit. Look at their football roster. It's Colorado, then California and the West, Then Texas and the South. They have a group of 6 players from Chicago.

This fits Colorado in general. Strongest ties to California with almost as much from Texas as the Great Lakes, combined still less than the west. The Summit doesn't fit that, the Big Sky does.

We all have to ignore the North Dakota posters when they talk their nonsense. They have a completely warped view, and the seem to really think they are Westerners. Yet you look at their students and athletes and they are 6:1 or 7:1 upper Midwest, heavily dependent on Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin. They are in small towns on the very eastern edges of their states where 70% of the population lives, the distance from North Dakota to Montana State and Northern Colorado is almost as far as New Mexico State to San Diego!

The Summit wont replace IUPUI. In fact they will be leaving just as North Dakota is entering. No change, except they become a bit more compact, with the four Dakota schools, Western Illinois and Omaha in pretty small area.

The school everyone is overlooking is SIU-E, who are looking to leave the OVC. They were reluctant to join, don;t think it's a good fit. Were in talks with the WAC when they were adding UMKC and Chicago State. They may well be a logical replacement for another school leaving and a bridge of sorts to Fort Wayne.

UMKC does not have sound, sane leadership. I have no clue what they will do. Why did they go to the WAC knowing Denver was leaving?

I'm just posting what a NMSU fan rojo13 posted on this board on May 12th. He has very close ties to the basketball program at NMSU.

This is what he posted,

"I would be more than astounded if NMSU joined the Horizon. This is just another fantasy conference muse by someone who knows little about the recent history of the Big Sky, WCC, Southland and WAC. The WAC is clearly improving its athletics and travel is not bad compared to the pipe dream Horizon realignment discussed by the blogger.
When the Horizon expressed interest in NMSU about a year ago to President Carruthers and AD Moccia, the invite was that GCU would have to commit also. Chances for that are two -- slim and none."

UMKC wants to be in the MVC. Joining the Summit does nothing for them. If they leave the WAC for the MVC, they have no exit fee. If they leave the Summit for the MVC, it will cost them $1 million. The Summit needs baseball and UMKC does not bring that. It is best to stay in the WAC, get better in basketball and hope the MVC expands.

Seriously guys you never learned from the last offseasons?!?!?! (Speaking mostly to the former Scout posters here).

The WAC can't die...never will. Everyone is safe so just chillax.

Funny to see all the NMSU posters getting green with envy of the idea of GCU leaving them in the WAC.

Envy? How? GCU can't get into the Horizon League without New Mexico State.

Good post.
This one had some tidbits that seemed to point at GCU and was helped along by a Detroit news reporter. Coupled with the NMSU/THL 'contact' a year or so ago....

Maybe it further illustrated the insecurity regarding the conference of some posters here.....including myself.

Is the WAC nowadays REALLY that unstable, especially if we can maintain the type of MBB season we did last year?

Im intrigued by the idea of another post here of using UMKC to maybe attempt to grab a western Summit school....especially if no other prospect (or DII move up) is in the pipe. Omaha? (They have baseball)

Currently mobile....away from the house or on "the throne."
