Not so when you look at Purdue-Fort Wayne. Consider the hurdles Murray State went through to set up the money to be able to exit the OVC and compete in the MVC. Murray has considerably larger fan base and donations than Fort Wayne. None of the mechanics to set up accepting an invite have happened at fort Wayne, no money has been set aside for funding the first two years, no student fee increase either.

Stu, just be patient. Presidents and boards don't move at the speed of light. If handshakes were made with Fort Wayne, they'll get around to setting it up in a couple weeks.

They should terminate it anyways. They have just 4 winning seasons in the last 50 years and none with more than 7 wins.

Think IPFW needs to carefully plan their financial affairs even running it by Purdue now, so it's PUFW that gets the call if they don't reject it. GCU can accept on the spot and don't need time. Thought I heard it's an extra half million the Summit adds in fees with a quick, under a year, move. A move at this late date would cause a lot of scheduling issues.

Not discounting GCU for later, but the Horizon needs ten core schools. GCU would be understood to be temporary and could fly away at the drop of a hat.

FortWayne already has a lot on their plate. The Board just 5 days ago worked on the realignment from IU and PU to PU. It would be very difficult and uncharted to switch during the transition. They would likely need both PU and IU board approval of an athletic move until June 2018 when PU alone takes full control.

Almost the whole Summit jumped to the Horizon when the Horizon lost its key Catholic based schools. The Summit survived by taking the most desperate teams available, like Southern Utah, Troy, Centenary, Chicago St, Youngstown St, Central Connecticut etc. IPFW and the Dakotas were Division II then.

I mean more recently, not when Xavier was in the league and jumped to the A-10.

I am surprise they did not look at Bellarmine? They are better situated to move to the Horizon. I think they do offer all the sports as well.

As for West Texas A&M? They do still have rapid fan base that could go higher if they move to D1. Every Texas schools still have better fan support than some MAC schools. The Lone Star conference alone tells it alone as a better football attendance conference for football behind the HBCU conferences. One of the West Texas A&M's home game, if I remember right, had more than 22,000 in the 20,000 seat stadium. That is more than what New Mexico State could get lately.

My money's on Fort Wayne for 2018, but any chance it might be someone else outside the footprint like Florida Gulf Coast? They tick the right boxes in terms of basketball and baseball, although their budget is a bit small by Horizon League Standards. Flights to Florida are plentiful, and at least you don't have the time zone difference that the Horizon would have with GCU.
