Exclamation 73 Days to Kickoff... #73 So. OL Mac Patrick
[Image: patrick_mac_73B.jpg?width=300]

Mac stepped up big at a critical time last year at Center when 5th year Sr. leader Kyle Rigney went down with an injury in the semifinal victory at Fargo. It is remarkable for a true freshman to plug in and make the important calls at the LOS for the O-Line as the offense continued to play well and we didn't miss a significant beat. I have to believe Mac is the front-runner for the starting Center job as we head into preseason camp in a little over a month.

Mac has good size at 290# and hails from Mechanicsville via Hanover HS. He made the CAA All-Academic team as a freshman last year. Good luck to Mac in his 2nd campaign in purple.

Looks to be standout for the next 3 years, and should just improve upon his outstanding play in the NC season. Not surprised at the all-academic honors. Everyone knows the smartest players on any team are the OL, and the smartest of that group is the C (or whoever is calling line plays). 04-cheers

Hate to say this because Rigney was a rock during his career, but I think the snaps actually improved when Mac stepped in. Really was miraculous the way he rose to the occasion. Props to the staff as well for prepping the team so well. If it wasn't for the crowd noise sabotaging our drives we would have rolled over NDSU. Not sure they'll ever be dominated that way at home again in the foreseeable future but our guys would not be denied that day.

Mac is a better center than Rigney. He just lacks experience. He is much larger and will be an All American before he graduates.

We have a pretty good history with players from Hanover, Wells and the older Cheatham come immediately to mind. Now we have the younger Cheatham and the Patrick brothers (Mac's brother is the one that made the one-handed catch on the ball on the sideline at the National Championship).

I agree with both of you wholeheartedly. It cannot be emphasized enough how important Mac's play in the semifinals was to the successful playoff run last year. Big time players make big time plays! Mac's performance was fantastic!
