ESPN does multiple types of deals on ESPN3.
There are games where ESPN pays 100%
There are games where ESPN splits costs 50-50
There are games where the school provides everything except the announcers who are paid for by ESPN.
There are games where the school does everything.
We had one home ESPN3 with some Rookie League caliber ESPN announcers and the rest were local guys (our women's radio play by play guy and a former coach, based on comments from other school fans they hated our PbP guy and liked the old coach).
Don't have the link handy but Georgia Southern's AD talked in an interview about how only 5 Sun Belt schools have broadcast quality equipment on hand and the possibility of starting to generate more money from the online broadcasts.

Why haven't we looked into having the tournament at Hampton Coliseum and the women play at HU or CNU? Im sure theres a reason, but what is it? Or, since Norfolk would be an even better destination, just schedule the tournament for the week before or after the MEAC?

My in-laws live in Hampton so I have to veto having the conference tournament there.

It seems that if CUSA isn't going to have its own digital network, then this could be leading to a MAC type deal where ESPN will own the digital rights for CUSA and the majority of games will be on ESPN3.
So far the MW is the only G5 conference that will broadcast games on their own digital network. The AAC really can't because they pretty are owned by ESPN and use them for the News/U channels.

If the AAC and MWC continue to get decent coverage, then the issue is clearly with Judy. If they are relegated to E3 for the most part too, then maybe thats just life in the G5 world these days.
It's not Judy it's the product. Let's be honest.

The league is asking all members to move in the direction that espn3 will be the primary streaming source.

With a Roku, Apple TV, or a Fire Stick ESPN3 is as good as "real TV". It will be nice to catch every Marshall game as well as other important league matchups.

I wouldn't go that far. We have a Roku and I watched some of the C-USA baseball tourney games on ESPN3 with that. The quality was good most of the time, but also would become fuzzy at times. Also froze and buffered several times. Maybe it's just our internet, but I wouldn't say it's "as good as real TV."

I rarely have problems with the picture but nothing irks me like the lag. You will get a twitter update or iPhone push notification about a big play or a score before you see it on your TV, phone or computer. Happens with MLB.tv, NHL Game Center, and MLS Live as well.

Correct and anyone that says its even close must have a really bad TV. I understand if streaming is all you have...its great. But clear, good motion, HD you are not getting. The reason I bought 3 of the 4 55inch or higher TVs is the picture makes you feel you are right there.
You do not get that with streaming. A movie, yes. Fast moving sports, no.

Every game on an HD channel is never happening so ESPN3 is close enough for me. And a huge step up as far as quality, accessibility, and ease of use compared to the awful cusa.tv or searching for pirated feeds of games.
As many as we can get on ESPN-2-U-News, CBS Sports, FS1 etc. and the rest on ESPN3 should be the goal.
