Giants would still be more successful because they have 4 Super Bowl wins.

RE: 2017-18 NBA thread:
What happened was that Charlotte still wanted their franchise history. Originally, the Bobcats were the Bobcats and the Hornets were the Hornets, even in New Orleans. But since Charlotte wanted their name back, the old Hornets changed their name to the Pelicans (should have been called the Big Easy Pelicans, New Orleans doesn't roll off the tongue well when combined with Pelicans but I digress). When they became the Pelicans, it freed up a chance for the Bobcats to take back over the Hornets name. In doing so, the renamed Hornets took over the records of the old Hornets in the years before they moved to New Orleans, meaning there's a two year gap in their history as it appears, similar to the Browns. Like the Ravens, the Pelicans are considered a new franchise unrelated to the Hornets.

It's like the Browns/Ravens but was retroactive.

I swear the Jazz have the worst set of uniforms in the NBA. I almost don't even know what their primary colors are. They need to go back to their New Orleans Jazz set of uniforms full time. The green ones aren't bad.

So, you are saying that the current Hornets get original Hornets records before the move to NO and they will also have the Bobcat years + new Hornets?

I was pretty sure that NO, Charlotte, and the NBA worked out a mutually agreeable arrangement for NO to become the Pelicans, the Charlotte Bobcats to change to the Hornets and get the original colors as well, and whatever else the NBA wanted. I'm not sure who wanted to change first.... it might have been NO, and Charlotte, as the Bobcats at that time, was struggling to get a buy in from the fans for them being the Bobcats, and wanted to cash back in on the Hornets and the original colors. Personally, I think NO should have done something different with the name the took. Pelicans, while locally making sense, just does't sound cool IMO.

They have some competition with the Bucks.

The Bucks actually have a winning record all-time, are only 18 games under .500 in the playoffs and was close to .500 until recently, are more than two decades younger than the Knicks and only have 1 fewer title than the Knicks. Minus the early NBA dark ages, the Bucks have about half as many Finals appearances. They also play in a small town compared to the Knicks and get almost zero hype.

RE: 2017-18 NBA thread: The Playoffs
The Warriors might lose in either of the first two rounds because they are short-handed, but having the Rockets and Thunder on the other side of the bracket at least gives the Warriors a chance of making it to the conference finals.

I like the Heat over Sixers upset pick. Not sure I'd put money on it, though.

RE: 2017-18 NBA thread: The Playoffs
Ian Eagle noted during the Nets game last night that this was the first time that heading into the final day that no playoff matchup has been set.

It defies everything seen during the season but when the smoke clears, I think we're seeing a 4th straight Warriors vs Cavaliers series. I know Toronto is a vastly different team but just hard to pick against LeBron, especially at the level he's been playing.

Picking against Houston was a bit harder and if Curry doesn't come back near 100%, can see Houston beating them.

The teams I'll be pulling for are the Sixers and Utah. Sixers are a fun young team to watch and are a scary match up for anyone especially if Embid is able to come back but I say a year away. Always liked the Jazz and the fact they exceeded all expectations make them easy to root for. Plus I've been rooting for Derrick Favors all his career.

RE: 2017-18 NBA thread: The Playoffs
This was the first time a team from LA or NY/NJ is not represented in the playoffs since 1976 and that year the Nets were the ABA champion.

Before that, it was all the way back in 1960, the year before the playoff bound Lakers moved west.

Coach Clifford gets fired by the Hornets. The last two years have been abysmal in terms of performance overall and not making the playoffs with decent enough talent. I'm expecting more moves.

If you're referring to the red line, there's a crack in the real Liberty Bell, which is what is being referred to.

It doesn't hurt. NBA logos are way too simplistic these days. 90's logos (this one isn't) were more fun, even if more controversial.

I'm thinking it's referencing 'Don't tread on me'

Tyronn Lue basically admitted he wasn't really a good coach and it shows. Can LeBron carry them in spite of him?

I can't find the article right now but he basically admitted he didn't know the sets or anything upon returning from his leave of absence. I suppose you can chalk that up to him being out of it for some time because of health but it still sounds bad to say things like that.
