And probably the worst statement in the whole story is the one that says 'The USM baseball team ranks with WKU football and MTSU basketball as the best programs going in C-USA.' Sorry USM but Rice baseball still is ahead of you even with its poor 2017 season.

I do agree that FAU and FIU's struggles are puzzling. I was hoping they wouldn't be much of a step down from UCF and USF, but that just hasn't been the case. I do have more hope that FAU can turn the corner. FIU might be moving in the right direction in baseball.

Agreed. Rice baseball is tops in CUSA with USM close behind. I think that statement might have been based on last 2 years.

Not to be disrespectful, but they've been saying this 2005 when they both joined the Sun Belt.

And both have won a football championship in that time frame. How many other schools in this conference can say that?

That got me curious. Looked it up, but went back to 2000. Hope I didn't miss count:
USM = 2 (CUSA)
WKU = 2 (CUSA)
Marshall = 3 (MAC,CUSA)
FAU = 1 (SBC)
FIU = 1 (SBC)
UNT = 4 (SBC)
Rice = 1 (CUSA)
MTSU = 2 (SBC)
UTEP = 1 (WAC)
LaTech = 2 (WAC)

Comparing # between teams isn't a true indicator of strength level between group since the time span didn't have all teams in same conference. But a championship is a championship and definitely great to win them.

ODU being #1 in C-USA...ya that seems pretty accurate to me. No complaints here.

heck Owl.. I dont' know a USM fan that would disagree with you.

It'd still be Rice #1 in Baseball, USm #2...

I'm just going to do football & basketball if you want to add others go for it. But from where I sit FIU won more than UNT in both sports in the 3 years Western has been in CUSA. Not far from UNCC in basketball. FAU is a step below but lets be honest...not much.

So point out to me again why those two are way below UNT?

How very convenient of you to leave out our 2013 season, when North Texas won 9 games in football and beat UNLV in the HOD. Yes North Texas football only won 5 games last season, but we also represented C-USA in our second bowl in 4 season. That alone is enough to keep North Texas out of the cellar.

Plus, UNT is pumping money into our facilities, and programs too. This off-season, North Texas bought out the contract of Arkansas State's 20 game winning basketball coach. North Texas poaching quality coaches from other G5 conferences is also good for C-USA. If we don't see a big turnaround in basketball next season, I will be shocked.

In a few months North Texas will be breaking ground on a new track and soccer facility, and soon North Texas will be expanding their athletic center and building a new indoor practice facility and weight room for our football team.

I'm not being unreasonable. I didn't even think about placing North Texas among the top of the conference, but we are doing good things, and are certainly not at the bottom of C-USA.

FWIW I agree with both of these. We havent hit our ceiling, and yes we should be better then where we are. Both programs have not lived up to our potential

I thought in 2007 we were on a rocket ship to being another Boise State. Always flirting with the top 25, beating bigger schools. Hell in SIX years we had gone from COMPLETE football start up to full FBS member, Conference championship and a bowl win. If you had told me then that for the next 10 years Florida Atlantic Football would be a perennial bottom feeder in a conference, going thru 4 coaches in that time, and not going back to a bowl game, I would of advised going to rehab clinic because you were SURELY on some serious drugs.

FAU has invested heavily in facilities and now with coaching. The president is ALL ON BOARD with athletics as the way to garner growth for the school. If we cant get it turned around in the next 3 years, then I think we need to cut our loses and go FCS.

Never mind that the two schools that have won four of the six titles in the two major sports over those three years and brought the most notoriety to the league are located in the mid to bottom half of these so called "value" rankings. I guess there isn't much value in that. LMAO

Pretty sure we won in 2014...seeing as the 2017 season hasn't started... just sayin'

What exactly is your point since I'm not disputing that or saying anything to the contrary. Doesn't change the fact that MT and wkcc have won four of the last six titles in those two sports. I guess I could have said four out of the last four and we could avoided this altogether.

Easy Cha Cha.. I'm just yankin' your chain a little... after all, it's the off-season..

"Fan support, tradition, facilities, market size, potential and performance in the major sports are all factors that play into these rankings."

I had kind of just rolled my eyes and moved on (having just skimmed the actual column) until I saw someone here mention UAB in 4th.

That's just. . . I mean - the "performance in the major sports" has to include the most major of those major sports, right?

It appeared to me to be written by a high school sophomore. Getting beyond that, when he/she stated "the program has to deliver more than wins on the field" I knew it would have little to do with wins and more to do with making his/her favorite team rise higher in the ranks utilizing criteria other than winning.

Regardless, it's one person's opinion and I'm OK with that. Everyone has an opinion.
What the writer said regarding attendance at last years CUSA championship game has little merit. Is that what your saying?

It must have been funny when back they were like "Hahahaha no way UCF and ECU have more value than us."

There you go again you moron. Like beating someone who matters ever. What has ECU or UCF done exactly. Get beat by Arkansas State in a bowl game. They each paid 12 million or more dollars to get t-bagged by ESPN.

Funny how we get so worked up about some guy's "opinion" piece

I'm gonna write one that has MT at the top. It would hold just as much merit (i.e. not much) as this guy's article

At Western we will just keep winning championships and add a few others to the total....

WINNING MATTERS, especially the top two sports. Those that think anything else matters expect winning....

are coming in 2nd-14th place

Defending putting MT at the top. Unless you're going to heavily weight basketball performance over the past two years over everything else.
