I don't know, at # 12 and in the "Good potential, but still lagging" category, I think they nailed Charlotte. We have seen a steady decline in performance and attendance in the last decade and until we start winning enough to matter we are still just the best airport in C-USA.

Can't disagree with you one bit. Good start for us would be getting a competent AD in place but it's going to be a few years before that happens.

Defending MT over ODU ? 'Twould be easy

Defending putting MT at the top. Unless you're going to heavily weight basketball performance over the past two years over everything else.

Just as easy as ODU at the top. How many hoops, football, women's hoops, or baseball titles has ODU won in C-USA ?

Tournament titles ?

Just 2 more payments and we own Old Dominion

How very convenient of you to leave out our 2013 season, when North Texas won 9 games in football and beat UNLV in the HOD. Yes North Texas football only won 5 games last season, but we also represented C-USA in our second bowl in 4 season. That alone is enough to keep North Texas out of the cellar.

Plus, UNT is pumping money into our facilities, and programs too. This off-season, North Texas bought out the contract of Arkansas State's 20 game winning basketball coach. North Texas poaching quality coaches from other G5 conferences is also good for C-USA. If we don't see a big turnaround in basketball next season, I will be shocked.

In a few months North Texas will be breaking ground on a new track and soccer facility, and soon North Texas will be expanding their athletic center and building a new indoor practice facility and weight room for our football team.

I'm not being unreasonable. I didn't even think about placing North Texas among the top of the conference, but we are doing good things, and are certainly not at the bottom of C-USA.

No what you are doing is adding a 4th year...the article clearly said "Conference USA just finished its third year in its current 14-team lineup and it’s been a mixed bag of results during that stretch"

And no UNT's 5-8 season last year doesn't push you up the rankings. UNT won a total of 5 games. If you want to add APR into the mix then you have a point. UNT did not earn a bowl bid on the field.

But if we are going to start adding things into value....that ocean, beach, and cool 78 degree heat in the dead of winter out weight most things.

On the field and court over the 3 years this article was about...FIU & UNT were close to equal with FIU winning more. You add your bowl game that wasn't earned with wins and I will add ocean, beach, winter weather and to me (probably most people) it's not close on which one adds more value

Not enough, but we've been near the top in almost all cases. I"m just saying if you were to put basketball performance over the past two years then MT would be the top. If you were to add in other sports, say performance over all major sports since realignment. I'd say probably La Tech, maybe WKU. Now if you want to add in other things like fan support, facilities, budget, etc. then it's not crazy to put ODU at the top. You can't say that we haven't been competitive though we have fallen short of championship seasons so far.

You could defend it better than having ODU at the top which hasn't really done anything yet of note since coming into the league.

The criteria:
Fan support: Would your football stadium be sold out if it was 35K? We don't know what we don't know. Your basketball attendance is in line with the top of the league but it's not a blowout. ODU fan support is certainly at the top but this wasn't the only criteria.

Tradition: ODU football is an infant and has none. Decent in hoops.

Facilities: A lot of argument could be made here and subjectivity. As for ODU having a nice arena doesn't end the facilities debate. There's more to it than that.

Market size: ODU only ranks eighth in the league there.

Potential and performance (How do you quantify potential? We are just going to call this one performance. Please check off how many major conference championships or marquee wins ODU has over the past three years.

Afterwards please then tell me how ODU warrants #1. Thanks.

I'm not saying any of that. I think ODU has a very good overall athletics dept. Selig is a good one, even though I cannot stand him.

What I'm saying is that I could configure a "rankings" that would come up with MT on top, if I picked and chose what I wanted.

I could rank "women's hoops attendance" high on the list, where we are Top 25 in the nation.

I could use "travels well to conference tourneys" -- who had more than us at the tourneys other than the host ?

We brought around 300 to El Paso.

I could leave out baseball, where we are having the worst period since we began the program. However, even our baseball team has a winning record over ODU head-to-head in C-USA.

I could use Brent Stockstill's injury last year in football, as a crutch.

But I can also argue about putting a team at the top with no titles in the "big four" sports in 4 seasons.

I do agree with you, in that my "article" would not get the readership that this maroon is putting out there.

If did write an opinion piece (I was actually a sportswriter in my past), I doubt that I would place us at the top. I'd probably put LaTech up there.

It was these same arguments that led to schools like ODU, FIU, UTSA and Charlotte getting invited to C-USA instead of Middle Tennessee and wkcc.

I assume Banowsky saw the error of his ways as he was writing his resignation letter.

Championships are great and what every team aspires to. But if you're going to put a metric on performance then you can't just add up championships and ignore the fact that you're dragging the conference down in another sport.

As much as I really hate doing this.....

I agree

In the article he notes ODU selling out 54 straight games but that's in a 20k stadium. Then he points out Western plays in a tiny stadium with 23k. ODU still averages more than Western by a little over 2,000. If we are comparing anything other than % of seats filled...it's not even close. Western clearly has a better FB stadium than ODU.

Yes ODU has a nice arena...I would rank it 3rd in the conference from a fans needs. Watching the game. Concessions. Restrooms. From the ones I saw (in person) I would rank ODU #1 in fan support

Outside of size I would not rank Marshall's football stadium in the top 3 in CUSA. Basketball arena wouldn't be in the top half. If I was going on anything other than attendance/seats. I've seen (in person) every stadium and basketball arena in this conference other than UTEP and UTSA. I doubt if this writer can say the same.

Seeing something on TV and in person is a lot different

Size seem to be a important factor in this ranking

Stadium will soon be remedied hopefully. Will still be small but high on amenities. As far as fan support, we have the highest tickets sales + donations in the league.

Thanks.

Restrooms. This writer seems to take bigger as better....

Outside of size I would not rank Marshall's football stadium in the top 3 in CUSA. Basketball arena wouldn't be in the top half. If I was going on anything other than attendance/seats. I've seen (in person) every stadium and basketball arena in this conference other than UTEP and UTSA. I doubt if this write as seen many in person.

Seeing something on TV and in person is a lot different

Size seem to be a important factor in this ranking

Stadium will soon be remedied hopefully. Will still be small but high on amenities. As far as fan support, we have the highest tickets sales + donations in the league.

And have you seen our Twitter following?!?!

Saw the drawings and they look great. Hell I like your old stadium, other than the way the seats are arranged. I like history and seeing all the names on the walls. We will be making another trip there in Oct

It's nice from a historical perspective but we've outgrown it, especially when you consider the things you said (concessions, restrooms) and other creature comforts, like a handrail. In 2019 it won't be the biggest, but it will be the nicest. Same mantra as our basketball arena.

I'm gonna write one that has MT at the top. It would hold just as much merit (i.e. not much) as this guy's article

Considering he's a MT fan, I doubt we'd see it in Huntington
