Europe in 2017 is racked with uncertainty—the eurozone crises, the endless challenges of the European Union, national elections that resemble endless rounds of bullet-dodging. Yet even these events are insignificant compared with the deep tectonic shifts beneath the Continent’s politics, shifts that Europeans—and their allies—ignore at our peril.
Throughout the migration crisis of recent years I traveled across the Continent, from the reception islands into which migrants arrive to the suburbs in which they end up and the chancelleries which encouraged them to come. For decades Europe had encouraged guest workers, and then their families, to come. As Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel once admitted, nobody expected them to stay.

I am reminded of Benny, from the movie the Mummy. He turned on his friends and his country in order to support the newcomer, who later killed him by having him eaten by beetles after Benny was no longer of use.

I think the original intent was for these people to be the migrant underclass to keep wage pressures low - like our illegals from Mexico and Latin America. Now they want to build a life in Europe - and impose their own views on how the place should be run. It's quite cliche if you think about it. They've become a plot device.

How many stories and movies have we seen where an underclass rises up to overthrow their masters? Art imitating life or life imitating art?

What's the differentiation between illegal aliens from Mexico and Latin America, and those invading Europe?
