NHL Expansion Draft - Protected Lists Released
Hurricanes managed the roster well enough to wind up with nothing but crap left exposed.

Probably will be the case for most teams. I still can't figure out why they're expanding to Las Vegas, it's not my money on the line I guess.

Interesting the Canes didn't protect Ward or Lack...that said...I can buy it as well Lack can be replaced... Ward is a aging vet who is good but could be on the verge of his downhill trend.

I'm not enough of a hockey fan to get into third line player values, but I'm fascinated by what the Vegas GM is doing here. Their recent statement:

As noted on Deadspin:

Darling is the new starter in net, so they are really hoping either Ward or Lack gets picked up. Almost all mock drafts have Stempniak getting selected from the Canes though, so it looks like we're going to have to trade or buy out either Ward or Lack.

So the Canes lost Connor Brickley, who they acquired for Brody Sutter in a minor league player swap last year.

James Neal was probably the best player taken, and Marc-Andre Fleury was probably the biggest name. It will be interesting to see if they intend on keeping those players or flipping them for prospects/picks.
