Who replaces North Dakota in BIG SKY in 2019?
Central Washington? Not a bad D2 team. Or will WAC ever come back as FCS football and the BS get split into two separate conferences?

I just saw the other BIG SKY thread. Please delete this one if necessary. Thanks.

RE: Who replaces North Dakota in BIG SKY in 2019?
I would trade SacSt, NoAriz, & SoUtah for Seatle
that would give B-Sky tight conf in NW corner [9]
Mont, MontSt, Idaho, ISU, EW, Sea, PortSt, WeberSt, NoCo
WAC ends up with 8
SacSt, NoAriz, SoUtah, NMST, GCU, CaBakerf, UtahV, TexRG

For football, Idaho dropping down fills that spot. I think they might just roll with 11 for hoops and hope somebody else (UNC?) jumps off.

N Colo and Sac St could both easily slide into the WAC. NColo already has baseball and women's swimming in the WAC, Sac St has baseball in the WAC and could put men's soccer there too.
Football teams remain affiliates of Big Sky.
Would give WAC a third Calif team, and a replacement for dying Chicago St.

Northern Colorado to the Summit .
Then Swap Seattle and Sacramento St with the WAC.
Eight of the schools would then be reasonably close.

Agree with Sac State, but if UNC every leave the BSC it will be to go east to the Summit/MVFC.
As for the thread, the BSC adds no one. Pretty sure most conference members will tell you they would like the league to shrink.

RE: Who replaces North Dakota in BIG SKY in 2019?
Why do we have a 2nd thread on this topic?
The question was well answered in the other thread. Nobody will be added to the Big Sky. Sentiment in the league strongly prefers 10, not 12.
ZERO desire from Montana schools to break from their California and Pacific Northwest base, where students and recruits come from. There is no desire to shed any school in the Big Sky. If this were survivor island, the tribal council would get down to 10 by booting SUU (poor academics, nobody's rival).
Mods close this duplicate thread.

Source? Or did you mean "Sentiment of message board fans of league schools ..." ?

There is no law requiring there to be a school in your league where you recruit students and athletes from. Minnesota recruits Georgia for football players, just fine.

Please Big Sky ADs complain about unfair league schedules and want to return to a round robin format where everyone plays everyone and what rivalries they have are continued.
P6 schools can fly all over the country to recruit they have the budget for it. apples and oranges comparison there. Show me an FCS school where the majority of the players are from out of region? P6 are on TV nationally for families to watch the game fcs well not so much. Reasons go on and on

NDSU and all the Dakota schools recruit just fine outside the midwest.
Still not sure what your point is.
Like I said, there is no requirement that SAC and Portland be in the Big Sky in order for Montana to recruit bball and vball players from Oregon and N Calif.

RE: Who replaces North Dakota in BIG SKY in 2019?
At the President level, one would think affiliating with either peer schools or academically more prestigious schools would matter a lot. And at Idaho at least, it's been shown that the President's views matter a lot more than the athletic department's. So I wouldn't completely discount the attractiveness of a potential small-states northern flagship conference just because some coaches would like it to be easier to recruit in California.

Yep.
And the idea that it's "cheaper" to recruit California by playing a game out there is absurd.
Cost of Montana playing a football game in Sacramento: charter flight, hotel rooms, ground transport, and food for 100+ people ... probably well into six figures.
Cost of a Montana asst coach (with ties to Calif area) taking a commercial flight out to Calif, plus hotel for just himself, food, etc. for a week ... probably a couple thousand.

You have to make the same flight somewhere. All FCS teams in driving distance are already in the Big Sky.
so your argument is invalid.

Sounds like you agree that playing a game in California is more expensive than sending one assistant couch out there to recruit for a week. That is correct.

Nope, as usual, you miss the point. Montana has to fly for games. So that is a sunk cost.
The recruiting that goes on during the games is an added benefit for recruiting.
And yes, players do choose schools that will play near their home in the future, even if it is just twice in their career.

Not the same cost going to Calif as Southern Utah.

Cheaper to send one asst coach out there than the whole football team + staff.

RE: Who replaces North Dakota in BIG SKY in 2019?
In Idaho's contractual agreement to return to the Big Sky, Idaho had an out if the Montanas and N Dakota were already gone. Why would Idaho have such a clause unless those three schools were talking about leaving years ag?. Presidents plans take years. That seems lost on most posters here.
If the Summit loses the teams east of the Mississippi, if was in the shoes of a flagship Montana or Idaho, would authorize moving vans out of the Big Sky yesterday. The Summit needs to be a MAC West to fulfill those Presidents long held dreams.
