RE: An Analysis of TV OTT Platforms
NBC is threatening to remove its channels from YouTubeTV unless YTTV agrees to pay more for NBC channels than cable pays and also agrees to bundle Peacock with YTTV.

NBC gets super aggressive in YouTube TV dispute

Quote:NBC is one of several NBCUniversal channels running prominent banner ads on YouTube TV streams, warning customers that they could lose access over a carriage dispute with Google. The banner lists over a dozen channels that could disappear if a deal isn’t reached by Wednesday, September 30th, and directs customers to an NBCU-owned website offering various ways to pressure Google. These include a pre-written tweet directed at YouTube TV, links to Google’s customer support, and a tool to find alternative providers.
Quote:Variety reports that there are several points of contention in the ongoing negotiations. NBCU is reportedly asking for higher rates for its channels than Google is willing to pay, and wants YouTube TV to bundle NBC’s Peacock video streaming service.

If this actually happens, it would be great news for cord-cutting sports fans.

https://nypost.com/2021/10/17/mlb-in-tal...ome-games/
Quote:Major League Baseball is in talks to launch a nationwide video-streaming service that would enable fans to watch their teams’ hometown games without a cable-TV subscription, The Post has learned.

The web-based service — which could address a decades-old annoyance for baseball fans that some have partly blamed for the league’s steadily declining viewership — could launch as early as the 2023 season, a person with direct knowledge of the negotiations said.

The National Basketball Association and the National Hockey League are also considering partnering with MLB on the new streaming service, sources said. Insiders say subscription rates would vary by geographic market and could be between $10 and $20 a month — well below the monthly cost of most cable-TV packages, which can easily stretch past $100.

I’m surprised they didn’t do this sooner. I guess they were still to tied in with the regional networks on cable.

Was hoping to watch some bowl games today. Any workarounds that don't involve sketchy websites?

That’s probably the best way to go for now. Do a 7 day trial on one of those, then cancel and do a 7 day trial on another.

The latest one is between Disney and Dish & Sling TV. 20 channels were removed last night including the ESPN channels.

Sling raised all their prices by $5 across the board. Orange and Blue now cost $40/month, and the combo deal costs $55/month. They also announced they are planning on adding 150 channels next year, so I guess expect more price increases?

RE: An Analysis of TV OTT Platforms
This is a service that I’ve recommended to several people in my life who LOVE it. They aren’t sports fans. At all. So this is probably something for someone you know, and not for yourselves. But who knows.

It’s called Frndly TV. Its $6.99 a month folks.

It is geared more toward families with small kids, women, light TV watchers and the channels it includes are very basic compared to any cable package and contains no sports channels at all, except for some outdoor oriented networks.

It has A&E, History, Lifetime and Lifetime Movies, 3 different Hallmark Channels, Weather Channel, some kids stuff, shopping, religious tv, classic tv etc. It has about 40 channels total. There are a couple of extra features as options, so there are plans from $6.99-$10.99, but the channels are the same I think.

I really hope someone can pass this info on to someone who could use it so they can save some serious money. We all know people who basically stick to a couple of different channels. Perhaps theirs are included here. This isn’t for most people, but it’s a great deal for certain people.
Keep in mind, this is LIVE tv, not streaming old reruns.

Thanks, Todor. My parents have recently cut the cord, so I will let them know about that.

Great! My pleasure. It’s truly astounding that from Frndly at $6.99, the jump is to $25 for Philo, and then up sharply from there to the various other services.

If it’s about being thrifty, I probably know about it. If anyone has questions for me, fire away, because I LOVE to help people save money.

What's the cheapest streaming service you know of that includes the ACC Network?

Here’s the secret weapon.

https://mybundle.tv/

Just type in a network or show and it will tell you what services it’s on, along with prices for each service.

My local internet provider previously provided cable TV as well, but was forced to quit once streaming took too big of a chunk from them. As a service they provided this tool to help customers find the right streaming options for them. Where I used it, it’s a window embedded in the internet companies site and I didn’t realize you could go to it directly.

It’s helped me out a lot.

Does anyone here have any experience with the TiVo Edge for Antenna? My wife and I are going to be moving soon, and the internet only option there is as much as we're paying for all in cable (with dvr) where we are currently. We're likely going to be switching to a digital antenna for all local options, and wanted the ability to still dvr things as needed. This one popped up as a more highly reviewed option (also turning it into a cable style guide that we're familiar with), so wondering if there were any thoughts here.

Have a Tivo Bolt for antenna. Works great as long as you get good reception.
