RE: An Analysis of TV OTT Platforms
Update with PSVUE. They just raise all their tiers by $10. Lowest price is now $40 instead of $30. I'm a PS VUE customer and they state I can keep my rate for 3 more billing cycles. I guess I'll have to review my thread to help find out the best deal.

OP has been updated with the new prices. Channels have not change.

RE: An Analysis of TV OTT Platforms
The regional sports situation is what gets you. The blackout restrictions of leagues are ridiculous. I would cut cord and go with MLB TV and NHL TV except the blackout restrictions will not get me games that I want locally. Where I live in Indiana, Cincinnati Chicago and Detroit are listed as local teams not available on MLB TV.

Arizona and Colorado are Utah "local" teams. No radio for either team here and Rockies are on Root only, so no over the air for either. If they are to be considered local, they should be made to provide service or lose the status.

RE: An Analysis of TV OTT Platforms
It's sports. Period.

If you don't watch sports on TV, and don't care about watching sports ... then they're going to have a product for you in the $30/mo range that will suit your needs just fine. Netflix, HBO, Showtime, you can all add on the side or through the package (whatever works better for you).

Everything else is going to be tooled around maximizing revenue from people who watch sports. They're going to have every system rigged ..... there won't be any way to bypass it, unless: 1) you're willing to only watch whatever you can get on OTA via antenna, or 2) you're willing to steal the content by illegal means.

So basically every team that you want, except your local NFL team, you're gonna have to pay up to watch it.

RE: An Analysis of TV OTT Platforms
Bump for new info on Fubo TV.

HGTV has been added to the package.
Also, new price of $50/month however there is a limited time offer of $35/month. How long that will last I have no idea.

Info on my first post has been edited with the new info.

Seems like things are getting more interesting as some of the older OTT platforms are upping their price to the $40 range now for the lowest tier with the exception of Sling...which is beginning to make them a much better deal for the base tier.

RE: An Analysis of TV OTT Platforms
The PS Vue Core Package for $45 is still the best all around value for sports fans, imo, despite the price increase. Fubo.tv for $35 is really good as well as long as you don't need ESPN. The sling blue and orange plus the $10 sports pack, total $50, is another solid one to consider. None include everything but 1 of the above should get you what you want

MWC,

It might be nice to add a category to the OP showing what hardware/devices have an app for the service. I think a lot of them you can only watch by downloading an app to an iOS or Android phone/tablet, or by using a computer. As opposed to AppleTV, Roku, FireTV.

Some TV manufacturers now actually include some apps built right into the TV itself (so called "Smart TVs"). One brand I've seen TCL actually has Roku built right into the TV itself.

Good idea, When I get some time I'll update with the device list for each one.
Thanks!

Hope that works, doing this from my phone. This article shows what services are available on various devices. They do a weekly (?) update articles about what channels are available as well. There is a link in the article to a PDF that shows all of that info.

I made a spreadsheet providing an easy search by channels and/or genres showing if they are available on each service and how much it would cost each month. I can PM to anyone interested. This thread won't let me upload a file

Suppose.tv just launched a comparison tool to help users find the best OTT deal based on their location and channel preferences.

RE: An Analysis of TV OTT Platforms
Saw this blurb about Netflix today, figured it could go here:

Quote:Netflix is pulling in new viewers and award nominations in droves. But the online video service has a long-term problem: its acclaimed programming lineup is costing far more money than what subscribers pay for it. That hasn’t been a big issue so far. Investors have been willing to accept scant profits in exchange for robust subscriber growth. Netflix announced Monday that it added 5.2 million subscribers in the April-June quarter. That’s the largest increase ever during the period, which has always been the company’s slowest time of year. The company now has 104 million subscribers worldwide. But the success hasn’t come cheaply. Netflix is locked into contracts requiring it to pay more than $13 billion for programming during the next three years.

Any update on when ROKU will have HULU and/or Youtube TV?

I'm with Sling right now but would like to try out some new ones.

RE: An Analysis of TV OTT Platforms
Doubt there will be any time soon for YouTube TV. 1) They're targeting secondary screens ... phone, tablet, laptop, and Millenial users who might not even own an actual TV, 2) Google has its own casting device and doesn't want competition from direct primary screen devices.
