I know fans from Eastern Washington and Weber State wanted to go to FBS a few years ago when WAC still had football schools. I do not think all Big Sky fans want this.

I think both Montana and Montana State were hoping for a MWC invite instead of the WAC a few years ago. The Academics in the MWC at the time is better than the WAC.

Imagine if MWC did not go for WAC schools except for a few?

San Diego State
Hawaii
UNLV
UNR
BYU
Boise State
New Mexico
Colorado State
Air Force
Wyoming
Montana
Montana State

That would have been a MWC academics power house.

WAC could still be these schools still.

San Jose State
New Mexico State
Fresno State
Utah State
Idaho

Then grab who ever wanted to be up there at the FBS level.

Lamar
Sam Houston State
Maybe finally grab Cal.-Davis, Cal. Poly, Sacramento State and Portland State?

12th could be football only like Liberty, Wichita State in the future, or Missouri State. UTRGV could join later when they add football.

That's Montana State's trophy. They haven't done crap in many sports and don't even offer many.

Tied UND in wbb as they had John Stockton's little girl and support.

UND swept the four major revenue sports for the first time in Big Sky history, but still doesn't shine in those major revenue sports of m &W Cross Country, m&W indoor and outdoor track and Field, m&W tennis and women's golf like NAU and Sac St do. Most of the Big Sky sports no one cares about, NAU and Sac St excell at.

And yet UND is retreating to the mighty Summit (and cutting sports to boot). Go figure.

But is a major power in one sport, dominating P5 schools and getting 250 k in attendance just for it, in a sport that the Big Sky doesn't offer. Yeah, life is tough that we absolutely suck at men's and women's tennis and women's golf. There are truly some things Suck St has over us.

Why would you include BSU?
They fall below NAU, PSU and pretty much anyone on your list.

There is growing support on egriz to get out of the Big Sky. Teams there do not have any following except the Montanas. The contract with Root Sports practically only shows Montana teams, as their the only ones left that have viewers.

The Montanas are kings of the snow hill in an elementary playground, but the Montanas are full fledged college students bullying grammar school kids. Imagine the scene.

yes a chunk of griz fans want to leave the bsc to the mwc or they hope more g5 fall to their level of fcs. they have no interest in the midwest and are very happy north dakota is out of the big sky

Lindsay graduated after the 2015-16 season. John just coached that one year. We tied in the regular season but won the tournament last season.

Seems like when one of your dreamed up conference scenarios starts falling apart. You turn into a real $hole.

Good info there. I was mostly just referring to football and men's basketball which tend to be the biggest draw in terms of ticket sales.

With the lost of TCU and Utah, MWC needs a power hitter in football to sell the games. Right now with Boise's record? They are better at football that can draw people.

You just realized that? The BSC need to tell Poly and Davis to find a new home for FB. Let UNC move east and move up the timeline for the UND move to the MVFC/Summit. That will give you a nice 10 team league. You get to keep a couple of dregs (Sac State and SUU) but everyone needs those type in their league.

Portland
EWU
UM
MSU
Weber
SUU
Idaho
Idaho State
NAU
Sac State

Cal-poly and UC Davis being football only doesn't hurt the conference. It Does make splitting into two football conferences possible.

BSC needs the trips to get in front of Cali recruits. The CA schools won't ever get involuntarily sent elsewhere.

Yep. All those other sports besides football and hoops, i.e. the MSU volleyball coach and Weber soccer coach didn't get a chance to see recruits on their annual visits to California, there would be hell to pay with their AD's.

Volleyball and soccer coaches actually have influence on decisions at Big Sky schools? This is all going to take a lot of getting used to.

RE: Who should the Big Sky try to get for twelve.
Backing up SDHornet:

Montana Football roster has

34 Montana, 5 Idaho,
13 Washington, 8 Oregon
20 California, 7 Arizona, 3 Colorado players

They also have 5 from Oklahoma, 5 from elsewhere (Texas, Florida, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Tennessee)
// Oklahoma looks like a fluke influx of walk ons

After local kids from Montana and Idaho (39), the recruiting breaks down to 21 from the NW, 20 from CA, 10 from Southwest, 10 from elsewhere .

Nobody is from the Midwest region covered by the MVFC and SUmmit (save Denver and ORU)

For Northern Arizona
38 Arizona, 37 California, 7 other West (2 Utah, 2 Nevada, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon), 3 other (Germany, Texas, WV)

For Weber State
44 Utah, 17 California, Idaho 7, 3 Nevada, 2 Colorado, 2 Arizona, 2 Washington, 3 other (Texas, Virginia, Minnesota)

For Idaho State
29 Idaho, 20 Washington, 19 California, 4 Utah, 1 Nevada, 1 Oregon, 7 other (2 Georgia, Florida, .. 2 BYU transfers)

I think that is a good enough sampling. California is critical for the rosters of all the schools, and also for general students. What is interesting is well over 90% of the athletes are from the West. There South seems to be where many of the odd ones come from. But there is absolutely no cross pollination with the Midwest or Great Plains. These schools have almost zero contact with that region.

Now let's look at North Dakota's roster

26 Minnesota, 12 North Dakota, 11 Wisconsin, 5 Illinois, 3 Missouri, 2 Indiana, 1 Nebraska, 1 Michigan, 3 Canada
6 South (Alabama, Florida, Maryland, Louisiana, Texas), 1 other (Sweden)
4 Colorado, 3 California, 2 Washington

The impact of the Big Sky can be seen in the 9 Western players (4 are Colorado which is something of a 'tweener). But that is minimal, will likely vanish in MVFC.

There is barely a trace of overlap between UND and the Big Sky schools. No similarity in make up of the teams. The Big Sky circulates around Washington and California recruits. UND focuses on Minnesota, Wisconsin, and other Midwestern states.

Well after 20 years (how long Sac State has been in) what do you think?!?

Come on we have a bigger stadium than you by 5,000 seats! Plus there's more than enough room to expand ours. Fact is Idaho should have never moved up without a FBS sized stadium. That is your death-knell at that level.
