The increased sizes of players is one of the more remarkable changes in college football over the past 30 - 40 years. I still think of Greg Ploetz, who played nose tackle for the Texas '69 National Championship team at a whopping 205#. Greg was first team SWC the next year he played. Today, 205# might be considered a decent sized safety.
Sadly, Greg passed away in 2015 from dementia related to a frontal lobe deterioration. It doesn't take much imagination to think his playing football played a part in his disease and early
