. . . till bball season, and I’m starting to get excited -- looking forward to seeing this team play. I’ve been watching videos trying to get to know each player’s game a little bit, and several things stood out.

Number one, we’re going to have a much deeper bench than we had last year. Nobody’s getting 35 minutes on this team because of that and because I think we’re gonna do a lot of pressing.

I do think we’ll get most of our scoring from inside again, but Johnson’s a shooter, and a couple of the 6‘7-6‘8 guys have some range (Davenport, Nickelberry), so hopefully, we won’t be as susceptible to teams packing it in like they did last year. Regardless, this team has the size to score it in the paint either way -- Thornton is a big dude.

And David Nickelberry has a personality that reminds me of Penny. He’s got some moves and handles, too. I would not be surprised if he ends up being the vocal leader of the team -- seems to be that kind of guy.

Anyway, just tired and bored with all the same ole, same ole, so I thought I’d offer up some relief from all that and say something positive. I think there are a lot of positives in Tiger basketball, even though you wouldn’t know it by reading this site!

It will be interesting seeing how our team handles adversity and vanquishment. Will they fold like Tubby's team last year or will they meld?

Solid post OP. Keep them coming.

I'm also very intrigued about the upcoming season. Lots of new faces probably adds to the intrigue. Whether they gel well is the big question? Either way...definitely looking forward to this season unlike the last two.

Something tells me if you fell into a pile of dung you will come out talking about how it moisturized your skin and cleared your sinuses.

Last year there was large margin between the talent on our starting unit and what we had on the bench. It is true the difference between our starters and our bench is not that large this year. But it is because our starters no longer have the same level of talent as last year.

Dedric was a great player, but even he had limitations. Everyone else ... meh.

Not convinced there will be as big a dropoff as some think.

Raynere Thornton is the guy that I'm most excited about. He can blow by other bigs off the dribble, and he'll post up the smaller guards. You add his passing ability, man he's a player. He will be a match up nightmare for other teams.

why not both? get a 100 dollar football ticket and one of those 99 dollar smartphone basketball season tickets.

199 bucks and you can watch every Memphis home game in football and hoops.

oh yeah, that doesn't fit the negative agenda being pumped here....nm

Dedric Yes he was probably head and shoulders above anyone we have coming in.

Early Season Crawford I don't see anyone performing on that level either. Late season Crawford I can see a freshmen equalling what he did easily.

Martin should be better

Rivers should be Better

KJ was not a great player, he posted stats but that is because he was a volume shooter and no one else was grabbing boards so he should be replaceable.

That is your 5...2 guys whose production should be replaceable, 2 guys who should be better and one guy who will not be replaced. Now the bench should be markedly improved.

KJ had a big drop off in conference.

11.1 PER is hard to defend. 0.386 EFG% is pretty bad as well. Fatigue must have gotten to him. He wasn't playing like a high major player. He was decent on defense.

KJ was terrible on defense. He was a revolving door allowing any and every player to drive past him to the hoop.

I am looking forward to this year for both football and basketball.

It will be a fun ride in football. I can easily see a 9 to 10 win or better season in football as long as our QB stays healthy.

In addition I expect that we will have a better basketball team on the court than last year. In basketball, 4 out of 5 positions will be better this year. Also the loss of Dedric will be made up with better team play, defense and rebounding.

Our basketball team should win have 20+ wins given our schedule. i hope to see some unselfish team basketball and will enjoy seeing it all come together.

Go Tigers!

Go Tigers!

It seemed like as the season went on our defense got worse...Not sure if it was because teams figured out what matchups they could exploit or the team figured out they couldn't afford to have anyone get in foul trouble because they had no help or some other reason.

But most guys defense tailed off towards the end of the season...Rivers and Martin, to a lesser extent, seemed to be the ones that maintained their intensity throughout (Cleargeot also seemed to always give max effort but seemed lost at times as well)

RE: Five Months
I've never been less interested in Tiger basketball.

This team won't win 15 games. Not one 3 point shooter on the squad....just passed on another one this week.

I'll take that bet.

It's probably in your best interest to go buy a football season ticket

Most people have heard me say I'm just not a football guy -- not for 25 or 30 years. Still, I'll attend at least one home game next season and try to listen to the rest when I can. Maybe after I retire . . .
