Holiday appears to be moving from ESPN
Dec 26th According to FBSSCHEDULE Twitter.

Detroit Bowl 5:30 PM EST
Cactus Bowl 9:00 PM EST
HOD - assuming 1pm Kick off based on the rest.

My guess, Holiday probably headed to Fox would be my guess with B10 vs P12 matchup.

RE: Holiday appears to be moving from ESPN
Doesn't look good.. Nominally it is set for Wednesday, December 27th, 2017. You can even but tickets. But the date and time are in flux, could even be before Christmas. Further, after this year there is no stadium deal.

It's been since January that the TV schedules have been out. Something must be very wrong with the organizing situation for ESPN not to have signed, and nobody else either (B1G vs P12 should not have a problem), five months later.

No need to guess about the Big Ten vs PAC matchup ... that is set in stone. Bowl ties don't change just because the TV partner changes.

Someone will broadcast it. It's a P5 v P5 bowl game, for goodness sakes. It'll either be on ESPN or FOX (maybe FS1?).

Yes, but with the new bowl contracts coming up in 2020, that is where the impact could be seen. Does Foster jump up? Does B10 look elsewhere with different P5 bowl game? Does Vegas bowl swap and Holiday becomes P12 vs MWC? It should be interesting to see what is annouced after the 2018/19 season.

yeah it'll be interesting to see how the bowl pairings change. Looking at the announcements- bowls were getting announced in June of 2013 for games beginning in the 2014 season. So roughly 2 years from now to start to see the announcements.

I'd personally love to see a lot fewer known matchups, and more flexibility for the bowls.

RE: Holiday appears to be moving from ESPN
I'd like to see the Big Ten do this for bowl games strategy:

- Three major bowl match-ups with the PAC in the southwest: 1) continue in San Fran, 2) new Vegas stadium, 3) new LA stadium
- Four major bowl match-ups with the SEC in the southeast: 1) the three games in Florida (Gator, Outback, Citrus), 2) Music City in Nashville
- Pinstripe in NYC at Yankee Stadium
- New Bowl in Chicago at Wrigley Field

RE: Holiday appears to be moving from ESPN
From my perspective, I would love to see the ACC and B10 play more than they do. Personally, I would love to see the following happen.

Orange ACC Champ.
I think the Citrus/Orange deal runs 12 years with B10 and ACC swap. When that happens it bumps all picks down 1 slot. If it was six, I would do Citrus/Gator instead.

Tier 1
2 - 3,
Gator/Outback(Tampa) SEC vs B10/ACC - three each
Camping World (Mid Week Orlando Bowl)/Nashville ACC vs SEC/B10 - Three Each

Mid Tier
4-8
Pinstripe and New DC area bowl or Military for ACC vs B10 (Mid Tier)
Sun vs P12
Belk vs SEC
HOD vs B12

Lower Tier
8-10
Birmingham ACC vs SEC
Independence ACC vs MWC or AAC

Lose Detroit and St. Pete.

9 bowls after Orange
SEC - 4
B10 - 2
P12 - 1
B12 - 1
G5 - 1

RE: Holiday appears to be moving from ESPN
2 things:

(1) When the Bowl game schedule was announced, ESPN's only real "available time slot" (short of shunting the game off to ESPN2) was on December 26th.
(2) If you're the Holiday Bowl, December 26th is far from ideal. Hard for B1G fans (or even Pac-12 fans) to get to San Diego when Christmas was literally 24 hours before.

Fundamental conflict of interest there between ESPN and the Holiday Bowl.

The Holiday Bowl on a weeknight on FOX between the 27th and 29th (with the Foster Farms on another weeknight over that 3 day stretch) does make a lot of sense.

I actually hope it is FOX OTA. I miss the days of night time OTA bowl games. It would be interesting to see how they do in the ratings.

Military Bowl is played in an AAC stadium (Navy), making it unlikely that they won't have an AAC tie in as long as Navy is in conference.

Agree that Dec 26th would be terrible for travel, and is likely a non-starter for negotiations.

Again, we're talking a Big Ten v PAC match-up here ... not G5 teams. Yeah, I understand that not many people outside fan bases get excited for Minnesota vs Washington State. But those are still P5 fanbases, in places that might really enjoy a trip to San Diego in December.

I think you might see more deals like the ACC/B10 did with Jax and Nash. Prevents repeats and switches it up for fan bases. Possibly B12/B10 doing that with games with the P12 with Alamo, Cactus, Holiday and Foster.

Military Bowl is played in an AAC stadium (Navy), making it unlikely that they won't have an AAC tie in as long as Navy is in conference.

Remember the Military started in RFK stadium then was moved to Annapolis. Why I said DC area or Military bowl. It may stay but if the ACC and B10 can move Detroit to DC and get Mid Tier teams. The new game could be played at National Ball Park or Fed Ex Field.

Not saying it will happen but ACC and B10 have shown interest in the past in the DC area with MD, Rutgers and even PSU. Military could easily become AAC vs other G5 bowl game. ACC may even keep it as the last bowl option and drop Independence.

Finally, will the NCAA extend the moritorium? Rememember Little Ceaser folded when the Detroit bowl was created. No one knows what will happen with how the 2020 lineup will fall. Who would have predicted the Ponsettia Bowl would have folded before Az or Bahama bowl? It is fun to speculate and see what happens when the time gets here. 04-cheers

Historically, the bowls in Detroit have had some of the larger crowds of the bowl season. Only reason Little Ceasars bowl shut down was the Detroit Lions did an end run around them

Can't really say TV has shown that with the Detroit Bowl. ACC teams appear to view that like they did the Blue Field of Boise when the ACC was tied in.

Curious, it seem Indianapolis would be a great bowl location. Why has a bowl never happened there?

RE: Holiday appears to be moving from ESPN
You guys are missing the bigger picture here. Something is amiss with the organizers. The TV should have been settled 5 months ago.

40 Bowl games, plus the National Championship game have TV in place. (32 ESPN, 1 ESPN2, 4 ABC, 1 FOX, 1 CBS, 2 CBSSN). But not the Holiday.

I think the San Diego reporters need to dig into this a bit more to see why, and also somebody who has the inside from ESPN should see what they know. To me this looks like there is a problem with the organizers.

I think it's obviously a statemate between the bowl and the TV partner about the time/date slot being proposed for the bowl.

Thing is, Dec 26 - Dec 28 are all already full of games (at least three each day), and so is the 23rd. So wonder if ESPN wants Holiday to go on Dec 21, 22, or 24?

IMO the current Holiday bowl match-up will move to the new stadium in LA when it opens up, the current Vegas Bowl will move into the Holiday spot and the P12 will anchor the upgraded Vegas bowl against another P5 (would love to finally get an SEC bowl tie in here but who knows if they would be willing to go that far west)

So the P12 would have after the Playoff/RoseAccess
TierI
Alamo vs B12
LA Bowl to be named vs Big10

Tier II
Vegas vs TBD
Emerald vs Big10

TierIII
Sun vs ACC
Holiday vs MWC (if the stadium issue hasn't been resolved by then perhaps they keep the Cactus bowl instead)

Back in the early 2000's, Arkansas played UNLV in the Las Vegas Bowl and got blown out by the Rebs...
