First Game At Your Stadium
After reading the back and forth thread between UNT and UH it got me wondering about the first ever game at the Sun Bowl. Our stadium opened in 1963. The first opponent was North Texas. UTEP won by a score of 34-7. On the very first play from scrimmage UTEP running back Larry Durham scored a TD from 54 yards out.

The largest crowd to watch a UTEP game at the Sun Bowl is 53,415 vs Texas in 2008. The highest season average we've had is 47,899 in 2005.

What about your university?

First Game At Your Stadium
I can't speak for those that were at Foreman Field's first opening in the 30s... but ODU played Chowan in football on September 5th, 2009 as its first game back after a 69 year hiatus. It was my freshman year and a great memory as we won 36-21. Students camped out for tickets, Thomas DeMarco made his debut, and our little football program made its statement that we were here to stay. It was the beginning of the great tradition that was ODU football.

Little did any of us Monarch fans know, the ODU football team would join the FBS in CUSA 5 years later, and won our first bowl game in 2016. We've sold out every home game, and have kept up a winning tradition.

On September 30, 1950, the defending Cotton Bowl champion Rice Owls defeated the defending Orange Bowl champion Santa Clara Broncos 27-7. A different world, indeed.

Joe Aillet Stadium opened in 1968 as Louisiana Tech Stadium. Terry Bradshaw led the Dawgs to a 35-7 victory over East Carolina.

Following Aillet's death in 1971, the stadium was renamed in his honor in 1972. The official dedication ceremonies for the new name came in November 1972 prior to a game against Eastern Michigan. Tech won 24-17.

Lastly, upon Tech's return to I-A in 1989, a bronze bulldog statue named the "Spirit of '88" honoring the final I-AA season was unveiled in the stadium for the first home game. Tech defeated heavy favorite Northern Illinois 42-21, which began an 18-game home winning streak that lasted until 1993. Tech's last victory on that streak was again NIU.

First game for Middle Tennessee at Floyd Stadium was Oct. 14, 1933 ending in a riveting 0-0 tie with Jacksonville St.

I suspect MT may have the oldest continuous venue/site in the conference.

As mentioned above HRS was only built in 1950. Our soccer venue was renovated last year but the field is where the football team played from 1912-1949. 37,000 seats wasn't enough for Rice football back then. I wish we still had that problem. 03-weeping

Marshall defeated New Hampshire, 24-23, on September 7,1991 in the inaugural game in then "Marshall Stadium". A crowd of 33,116 was the latest in program history and would remain the record until 2005 when Marshall hosted Kansas State in its first home game as a member of CUSA.

The 1991 team is the team that started "The Decade, The Dynasty" tradition at Marshall. The 1991 team would go on to finish as I-AA National Runnerup to Youngstown falling in the title game. Marshall Stadium would then be selected to host the next five I-AA National Championship games, with Marshall ultimately winning two of them.

Charlotte 52
Campbell 7

I will never forget that day. Not just the first game at Jerry Richardson Stadium, but also the first game in Charlotte 49er football history. In front of a standing room only crowd of 16,600 (plus another coupe of hundred watching from outside the stadium including from classroom building ledges up the hill), Charlotte's Mark Hogan scored on the 2nd play from scrimmage, a pick 6, 46 seconds into the game. The crowd, already amped up, lost its mind, as did our radio play by play crew. It was a day years, maybe even decades in the making, and the 49ers didn't disappoint, easily dispatching the Mike Minter coached Camels.

The newly double decked MM Roberts Stadium opened on Sept. 25, 1976 against 17th ranked Old Mrs.....a game the Golden Eagles lost 28-0 in front of 33,000....a date that will live in infamy. (we also played MSUcks at home and lost 14-6)

One must remember OP/MSU's SEC stadiums held just about the same as our'n back in 1976....

We later added 3,000 end zone and luxury box seats to make 36,000+ capacity.

True, true. But ECU has the naming rights.

RE: First Game At Your Stadium
After the renovation in 2012 we hosted and got destroyed by Texas Tech in front of 32,000. That was my senior year, our first FBS season, and the season that I finally cared about TXST football (especially after we embarrassed Houston) but I couldn't make it to the game because my gf at the time was having surgery. The crowd/atmosphere looked pretty amazing on TV though.

Legion Field opened on November 19, 1927 when 16,800 fans watch Samford (then Howard) defeat Birmingham-Southern 9-0.

There had been club games, but UAB's first NCAA DIII game at Legion Field was September 4, 1991 against Evangel. Blazers lost 10-28 in front of 5,132 fans.
