That's what I thought as well.

Drones work really well when you aren't fighting anyone with any sophisticated electronic warfare capability. They're useful against the Somali pirates, for example.
On the other hand, anyone with strong EW can jam the drone, take over control, trace signals sent to the drone back to their source. There's a big concern in the professional literature that we are putting a lot of our eggs into a drone basket that is going to be essentially unusable in a real wary.

I think something like this is the plotline for Top Gun 2. Yes, that Top Gun movie with Tom Cruise as an instructor showing everybody why you still need trained human pilots not just drones.

Isn't that essentially the target for this platform? Guys with fast boats and small guns?
I think it could work well against mines and subs as well. Drones can be very quiet and 'listen' for things many miles away from the platforms

Since we don't have S-3's any more, we could use them to deploy sonobuoys. I'd rather bring the S-3's back, but this would be a lesser alternative.
As an old mine warfare sailor, I'm not sure how effective drones aircraft could be against mines. We have done a lot with helicopter-pulled sleds with sweep gear deployed behind them, and the Germans in particular have done a lot with drone minesweeping boats--humans deploy the sweep gear and are then offloaded and the boats enter the mine field under remote control.
