Chris Holtmann to Ohio State
Holtmann was 70-31 in 3 years as the coach at Butler.

$3 million per year for 8 years.

RE: Chris Holtmann to Ohio State
Sad to see happen, but Butler will be fine. Like so many Big East programs, our schools are built on a collection of coaches, with no program defined by one coach or one era. With Barry Collier in charge, Butler will make a strong hire and keep the ship moving.

With expected interviews of Ryan Pedon, Micah Shrewsberry, Matt Graves and LaVall Jordan, I think getting Shrewsberry would be a home run. A Stevens disciple, he has NBA coaching experience and has learned from the best. He would be able to bring consistency and stability to a situation that - frankly - was caused by a big time program deciding to fire its head coach in June, and reach out to five different coaches before hiring Holtmann.

I generally agree with you GW11, but as Butler saw, you can get a bad hire pretty easily. Butler got real lucky that Holtmann was there to pick up the pieces when he was- because that could have gone real sideways real fast.

Holtmann is a solid coach. I wasn't expecting much when he was first hired by Butler. His coaching record at Gardner Webb had been 44-54 in 3 years.
Last year the Bulldogs really outperformed the predictions. One thing Holtmann couldn't do in three years was win a game in the Big East Tournament with losses to Georgetown, Providence and Xavier.
