Idk, we'll see. Lets BEAT BOSTON COLLEGE!

I hope so, but I don't know if he has the ability to coach better. He (and his OC) may get even more conservative in play calling to minimize risks. Could we possibly see even more bubble screens, jet sweeps, and sideline passes?

If Graham is the QB, probably.

Worse case scenario is he gets 7 wins and hangs around long enough to get a contract extension. 4 more years of hot garbage!

Graham running a QB keeper makes me want to storm the field and tackle Rod Carey.

It's difficult to root against NIU football, but that is what it has come to if we want to move forward. You are absolutely correct; limited success this season could be the precursor to more years of Huskie mediocrity. As you stated - worst case scenario. We really need NIU to flame out this season with multiple losses to seal Coach Carey's fate.

I would not include Carey in any hot seat article just because when you are financially unable to fire a coach, the job security is there for Carey. If money were not a factor, he would be gone already. Probably the same can be said on the basketball side of things with Montgomery.

yeah, makes sense to root AGAINST the Huskies because some internet trolls who probably never coached or played football a day in their lives decided the guy with a nearly 75% winning percentage with a half dozen or more significant quarterback injuries cannot coach........Sorry, I would rather root FOR the Huskies.

Not necessarily.

You can still be bad at coaching but have a decent W/L record as an HC in the MAC and get hired away by a P5 school.

And the answer is......"Who is Tim Beckman."

And you can be terrible enough to take an elite MAC program and gradually drive it into the ground. I hope it doesn't happen but fully expect the descent to continue. I would love to be wrong.

For the record, Carey's 41-26 record is a 61.2 winning percentage -- technically it could just as easily be described as nearer to 50% than "nearly 75%".
Significant or not, that career record includes 0-1 from the Orange Bowl same as it would have been 1-0 had NIU won. After his first full year, his career record was 12-3 (.800); after his second full year his career record was 23-6 (.793); after his third 31-12 (.721), after the fourth 36-19 (.655), and ultimately now 41-26 (.612).
Just curious, even if the trend of decreasing success doesn't continue, what's the "winning percentage" relative to years that would prompt you to think a change should be considered? Is it .582, .674, 603, some other number, all coupled with a post-season bowl record of 1-4, 0-4, 0-5?
This is the second post in which you've labeled those who don't share your view as "internet trolls who probably never coached or played football a day in their lives". How much football playing or coaching experience do you have?

Vegas was suggesting we root against the Huskies because of his dislike of Carey. Do you agree with that idea?

NO...and I have sufficient playing and coaching experience to know how hard the job is.......to discount the injuries is not something I can do as I realize how devastating leading your leading player is........you think if Lynch or Harnish were injured during DD or Harnish times, Kill or Dave would've won enough to have moved on?

Rooting for your favorite team to lose under any circumstances is unacceptable. Doing so is turning your back on that team. I'm not speaking as a troll or a former coach, either.

RE: Carey Hot Seat?
It's a big year for Carey. He doesn't have Lynch anymore or even Hare or Maddie, and the players are all his guys now. If he finds a solid QB and the rest of the team is good so that they are one of the top few teams in conference, then he will have reversed the trend. Of course we have to have better luck with the QB injuries this year.

I'm just hoping we don't see the wrong QB in there to start the year and then find out the #2 and/or #3 guys were better all along.

Say what you want about him but him and his crew are winning on the recruiting trail right now. We're a QB away from being Kings of the MAC again. Maybe they called up PJ for advice on recruiting.05-stirthepot

Never have and never intend to root "against" the Huskies, but as Vegas suggested, it appears the only way a change will be made is if things get worse. Extremely disappointed in Frazier for extending the contracts on Carey and Montgomery when it was neither necessary or merited. That having been said, it appears any type of success will simply prolong the stagnation of either program.
It's one thing for someone like cagey to stick up for a coach and it's another for him to immediately label anyone with a different opinion as being uneducated trolls and then twist actual numbers (.612 being nearly 75%) or provide "alternative facts": I have sufficient playing and coaching experience to know. Is that in basketball or football? Is that the Division I level, or D-III, high school, varsity or JV? What exactly is "sufficient"?
Pinning wins and losses on injuries is one thing in basketball, it's another in football considering a quarterback doesn't play defense or take part in special teams. NIU's recent shortcomings encompassed more than one position and it's an indictment of the coaching staff not to recruit or develop depth.
There isn't a single loyal Huskie among us who doesn't want players to stay healthy, but there also isn't a single program in the MAC or any other conference that couldn't play would of, could of, or should of in light of injuries. Or in the case of basketball, adopt "we're young" as a mantra.
For those of us who have been around NIU athletics for decades, we've seen a lack of commitment from Corso, a failure to recruit or develop depth from Sadler despite his incoming resume, the lack of progress despite Judson's name and reputation as an assistant, the steady decline under Patton despite his time at Colorado, etc. Despite raising a program from rock bottom, it took only one bad season even more impacted by injuries for some to discount Novak's ability to continue to elevate the program. So rooting "FOR" the Huskies includes honest assessment.
