Ohio State has zeroed in on Butler's Chris Holtmann, per a source. Deal could be done as early as Friday.

SOURCE: Chris Holtmann is in negotiations to become Ohio State's coach. Still not 100% done. But could finalize today barring a breakdown.

Where does Matta go now?

Fox sports reporting its done deal. Chris Holtmann is the next head coach of OSU. "...agreed to an eight-year contract with Ohio State worth about $3 million annually, Smith said. Final details of the deal are being finalized and will be released at a later date."

Someplace where he doesn't have to do much actual work. From what people are saying, a part of his coaching decline may have been due to his physical limitations. (he's only 49 but he had a botched back surgery a 10 years ago that has apparently been causing him more pain in recent years)

As I watch Steve Kerr suffer, it does make one wonder about our actual medical ability to deal with back pain. Steve Kerr said recently, “I can tell you if you’re listening out there, stay away from back surgery. I can say that from the bottom of my heart. Rehab, rehab, rehab. Don’t let anyone get in there.”

So what does Butler do?

Butler hires a new Coach. They have a solid program and are in the Big East. I think there are plenty of candidates who are on the rise who would be interested. They should not have a problem plucking one from another school.
