The head coach is Connie Teaberry. She has the cross country and track programs trending towards the top of the MAC. NIU can become a power in these sports. So much talent in Chicago!

Yes coach Teaberry is great, I said Myers since he is the cross country head coach and coaches the distance runners during tack and field season.

Year in and year out the State of Illinois is loaded in Girls Track and Field. There were a ton of girls I had a chance to see in person during their high school careers compete in the NCAA championships. No reason for us not to capitalize.

NIU inked Courtney Sockwell the other day. She should be a huge boost to an ever improving T&F team. Also, NIU finished 2nd in cross country this year after YEARS of averaging a last place finish in the MAC.

Hope has made a huge impact on this year and the next few years on the women's track and cross country team. Her performance in the Semi final (top time of all racers) a school record was just awesome.

Her placing 6th and being an All American is icing on the cake for this season.

As an alumni living in Oregon I flew the NIU flag around all day Saturday. LOL Of course, people thought it was just an odd looking Washington Huskie flag. LOL

That Ostrander was a killer out there.

Hopefully that performance in Eugene is a flag planting moment for the whole program. Love to see more Huskies get through.

Ostrander is only a Freshman. An Olympics is in her future.

Earning All American honors is an outstanding acheievement. Hopefully she continues to race professionally and can qualify for an Olympic Trial.

I think she just missed making the time for this year's USATF nationals in that semi-final run.

Pro runners basically get table scraps unless they're the next big thing (and even then, it's iffy), but if she wants it I hope someone (Saucony?) finds a few scraps for her.

If I read correctly, she will be competing in the nationals (her time of 9:51 was just off the automatic qualifying time of 9:50, but they take the top 32 times in the country of which she is 18th). She told the Daily Chronicle she will only be running in the first round on June 22. If she were to advance to the next round of competition it would be on June 24 which is her wedding day, and she told the DC she is not going to miss her wedding to run.

She finished 14th tonight in the qualifying round of the US Nationals which was good enough to capture the last spot for Saturday's national finals. Great last race as an NIU athlete. As noted earlier, she is getting married on Saturday and won't compete on Saturday for the championship.

I may be reading it wrong but Hope seems to have scored 18pts for NIU for the Learfield Director's Cup with her track performance at NCAAs.

NIU's WT&F NCAA's 52nd overall team placing scored 18 additional Director's Cup points for NIU to give the Huskies a final total of 87 points. This tied NIU for 165th (with Ivy League Brown, and just ahead of George Washington) out of 293 places.

Without Hope NIU would have finished with 69 points, good for 198th place and a tie with Utah State and just behind Wofford.

(In other good news, Toledo finished with 50 pts and placed 213th, last in the MAC and tied with schools such as Bethune-Cookman, LIU-Brooklyn and UMKC.)
