Seattle U arena will be rebuilt
Brought over from SU forum. Oak View group wins arena bid and will rebuild Key Arena. SU will play a few seasons in 999 seat Connolly Center, then move into state of the art new NBA Key Arena

Will the NBA return to Seattle?
I only see this happening if the league expands.

Yeah, only in expansion. But having an arena in Seattle will finally give the NBA incentive (at the very least) to add 2 teams in Seattle and Vegas/KC/Louisville or wherever

NBA will show up down the road but the NHL might be here much sooner.

Seattle U arena will be rebuilt
Both the NHL and NBA said they wouldn't talk about coming to Seattle until the arena is built. Build it and I am pretty sure they will come. On the NBA side I think it would be wise to move the Blazers up to Seattle because it gives them a bigger market and allows them to attract and retain free agents. NHL will likely expand to 32 to make the conferences even.

Hope Seattle can at least sell out that tiny gym. It looked like fans were watching a golf match when I watched them play GCU there

Not to hijack this thread but, I'd like to hear the rationale/buzz with Seattle getting the NHL. I have heard nothing of this, and I follow hockey fairly closely. I only see it mention on these boards.

The NHL is looking to continue expand, they have looked to expand more in Canada and in other US cities.

RE: Seattle U arena will be rebuilt
Curious when is Seattle U's lease with Key up? No plans on renovating the on campus arena in the meantime?

Blazers makes moving makes more sense than adding a team. For starters, the owner of the blazers is open to making the move. Second, the NBA owners don't want to have to split the pie up even more. Third, a bigger market allows the Blazers to keep their stars from going elsewhere because Portland isn't that big of a sports market and what superstar wants to come or stay in Portland. Lastly, the league is really only in position to add one team right now and it would throw off the numbers in the divisions and conferences.

On campus arena was renovated just 2 years ago. They recently extended the lease with Key (before all this) but Im not sure how long or if they will need to renegotiate a new one

I mean surely 1000 seats isn't enough is it? That's high school size. Only two smaller in D1.

Paul Allen (Seahawks owner, is the owner of the Blazers) has made no such indication. Any rumblings are from one sports columnist speculating.

Renovation not likely to begin until 2019 after NCAA tourny. Will be completed in 2021. So this may be two years down the line

They are being talked about being the face of this new NHL ownership that has partnered with OVG.
