Personally, I think we've had a run of great Tight Ends beginning with Mike Caussin. As far as their play while a Duke it's difficult for me to say one stands head and shoulders above the others.
Yep. The last 11 seasons, starting 2007 and going thrugh this upcoming season, the starters (when not injured) have been the below 4 guys:
-07'-09' starter Mike Caussin, 2009 3rd team All CAA.
-10'-12' starter Brian Barlow, 2011 & 2012 2nd team All CAA.
-13'-15' starter Deane Cheatham, 3 year starter, 2015 1st team All CAA (would have made All CAA in 2014 if not getting hurt in the RU game).
-16'-17': Kloosterman: 2016 1st team All CAA, 2017 pre season All American.
Assuming Kloosterman makes All CAA this season will be 6 of those 11 with an All CAA TE, would/should have been 7 if Cheatham not hurt vs RU in 14'..
Ironically, Kloosterman would be the only one of the 4 above not a 3 year starter, yet could be JMU's 1st All American at TE since ??? (Ed Perry in 96?)??. Maybe Caussin & Barlow could have made All American if had played in a more passing offense under MM..
Caussin (listed 6'5"/245 as a Sr) had a few seasons in the NFL. Barlow (listed 6'3/255 as a rSr), as I recall was being looked at by the NFL, but apparently declined invitations to try out/shoot for a UDFA contract. Kloosterman listed 6'3"/245 I would assume has a shot at being in an NFL camp next year if he pursues that..
