If we just played basketball in the Dome it would be one thing. But Idaho only plays about half its home games in a becurtained Kibbie Dome. During football season and the jazz festival in February, basketball is played in a decrepit 90-year-old gym with old retractable wooden bleachers that seats about 1,100, also hosts a number of other sports and has a million different lines all over the court. I love Memorial Gym but it's a ridiculous venue for D1 basketball in 2017.

The Dome for basketball and football plan seems to be dying.
Northern Iowa, USD, Idaho, and Idaho St have built arenas or are planning on building new arenas.
In a cold weather location, a dome isn't a bad idea but it would serve as IPF/indoor track and gameday venue instead.
I don't know if a dome would cost the same as an IPF and a mid-sized stadium or not.
Maybe Akron could have built a twenty-five thousand seat dome and been better off.

When I lived in idaho, was amazed at the lack of civic pride, as most decent sized cities there didnt have a civic arena except maybe attached to a high school. Central meeting venues/arenas were simply deemed unnecessary in most towns there, even though citizens are cooped up for months in the winters.. That thinking seems to extend to Washington and Oregon too. East of the Rockies, there is a whole different viewpoint, as almost any plains town of more than 50k has a venue that can host a variety of events.
The Boise area has a number of venues, and now Idaho Falls is finally planning one. But the number of modern facilities in the state can be counted on one hand. In North Dakota as an example, any city over 10k has one. Casper and Billings have nice ones, and there arent DI teams there.
The arena will help Moscow prosper.
